Life, A Question Of Choice – How Do You Want to Die?

Life and the choices we have to make.

You go out to eat, the waiter approaches, you've made your choice,

“the Rump Steak, please”

“How would you like it?”,

“Rare, please”,

“with chips, baked potato or rice?”,

“chips, please”,

“Vegetables or salad?”,

“Salad, thanks”.

“To drink?”

“coffee, please”,

“with milk, hot or cold?”,

“hot milk thanks.”

All choices you have to make when ordering a meal at a restaurant, now lets picture the life of a child from conception, are they given a choice? The mother conceives and for the first couple of weeks, unless she's a psychic, has no idea it's happened. She eats and drinks normally, and feeds the baby the same, and the babies choice? None, it gets to enjoy what mother enjoys, beer, wine, smoke, sugar or whatever else she imbibes.

The Mother's informed, or confirms her feeling, she's pregnant. Is this now the time for the Mother to become more health conscious with her habits? One would hope so, yet is she aware of all the dangers she's to meet? No, the food is not labelled, it could be GM food she's eating and feeding the baby inside her. The babies future could be decided before it's even born. What chance is there of early cancer development, of having to bury a child who has died before the age of five?

The child is born, and receives mother's milk, out of that cute container; filled with all the goodness, IGF – 1 (insulin-like growth factor 1), found naturally in mother's milk stimulating the growth of the infant. It's what happens after the mother ceases to breast feed the baby that all hell can ensue. Which powder milk to feed the child, which containers of food? Are they safe for the baby and derived from reliable sources?

What’s composition's used to make this formula, fed to babies. Purified cow's milk whey, (hope the cows weren't injected with rBGH, a synthetic hormone), casein a protein source, (which makes up 80% of the protein in cow's milk), lactose the carbohydrate ingredient, (the sugar from cows milk), and then a vitamin mix. Now for those that are intolerant or have an allergy to this supplement milk, there is the formula that uses soya bean as a protein source. (hope it's not Monsanto's GM soya bean).

The child may have already been exposed to these cancer forming genetically modified products. Is this why so many children now face cancer at such an early stage?

More solid formulas of fruit and other flavours, may also have had their beginning derived from fruit that has been genetically modified. They're advertised to contain no preservatives, colourants or artificial flavours, well that's one point in their favour, but are they sure their source product is GM free?

As the child grows older, they change to normal cows milk, are they awarded the choice between organic and rBGH injected cows milk? Not unless the container is so labelled. The meat they eat, the eggs and bacon, are they sourced from antibiotic fed animals and chickens? Not unless the product is so labelled. The vegetables, GM products, terminator seed, or sourced from organic farms? Not unless so marked, and labelled.

This list of choices can go on and on, and in the end what conclusion do we come to? No choice unless the product is so labelled. A child from conception on, faced with the dangers of the modern world, has no choice but to hope their government is thinking about their safety. Are they I ask?

When do we want to die? In old age hopefully, are we being given that choice? Not unless the product we purchase, is properly labelled. Again I ask, are they?

Street Talk

Rob, this is such a great blog post...too, many good information...that people should know from the very first time the baby was born...better to make at least sometimes feed the baby a home made food.

'twould indeed be nice to be able to buy all "real" food! Thanks for another true article... for indeed it is a strange world when "food" is sold that's not in any way shape or form good for human consumption.

This is such a huge issue. One would think that EVERY mother would care what she ingests when pregnant and what she subsequently feeds to her children via breast feeding and beyond. Unfortunately many just don't seem to 'get it' and if we're not looking out for ourselves as individuals and a society why would they? Many things come into the equation but primarily it gets back to values of which health is not held highly by many until they don't have it anymore. Rob, you will like the fact that I knew I was pregnant just days into the pregnancy.... I came out for my morning coffee and taking one mouthful I found it extremely unpalatable. No more coffee for the rest of the pregnancy. Serious stuff! ;-) Thanks for a great and very relevant article.

Thanks Heather, this was a difficult article to write from the woman's point of view, as I have heard stories,"Oh, I didn't know I was pregnant till three months" well how true that can be I don't know but the point was if products aren't labelled how do you know what you're eating????

Reply

Absolutely. I think everything should be listed on labels including GM content. At least those who care can avoid and other's can't say "I didn't know" when rather it's "I didn't care". I don't think any two pregnancies are the same so there is no woman's perspective in that regard. I've read articles of woman who have a full term baby and say they didn't know they were pregnant in the first place. Seems unbelievable but obviously possible.

Rob, thank you for taking time to write such a poignant article. As you know, GM crops are ILLEGAL in some progressive European countries. However, here in the US, money reigns supreme.....health be damned! If we look deeper, some of us could come to a logical conclusion that eugenics is at play here. Not much different than what Hitler did to the Jews.....except that the victims don't even realize they are victims. We must all continue to stand up, one person at a time, and speak the truth....always speak the truth. Thank you, Rob!

Dr Becky you have said what I have been thinking of saying. Hitler had it in his mind to rid the world of certain groups, that are now being feed all of these crops as food aid. The GMO are being pumped into Africa with no restrictions. and no one to stop the flow. at least Europe, Australia and New Zealand have some semblance of understanding with certain restrictions... Africa however is a dumping ground for products not wanted else where and with a few back hands wonders can be achieved here. A human test ground that cost so little, you won't believe the increase in diseases here, flying to almost uncontrollable levels.

Great article on choices that the baby can't make for themselves, and don't forget the Government make choices for us also, without letting know.

Too many people are complacent. Maybe they haven't yet grasped the reality that modified foods can create havoc in their bodies. I remember when people were taking fertility drugs. There was one in particular. I don't remember what it was called. My aunt took it. She had 3 children. One of them developed cancer at the age of 12. And it was related to that drug. If I had a wee one, I'd make their food from scratch, using organic products. As far as Monsanto is concerned, we have to go after them. I've signed several petitions, but that may not be enough. If everybody signs them, we might get somewhere. This is off topic Rob, but another concern is the healthcare bill that has been approved in the US. I'm concerned about rationing and the death panel. Valid concerns, yet many people still don't get it. Thanks once more, for the wake up article.

Thanks Joan, I've seen all the hype about the healthcare bill but have not taken too much notice of it, as it has little concern over here. Maybe I should study it a bit and see if I can make head or tails of it from this side of the ocean.. Was this not an Obama thing before the last election or has he done a turn about again, like the GMO labeling issue? I see one of his campaign promises was the label issue and now he's done a 180 degree on it, apart from putting a ex Monsanto employee in the top position. One wonders if this is not all money manipulation again to get what money wants and not the people?

I have strong opinions about Obama that I can't put in a public format. Frankly, what the people want comes second to other agendas. Not supposed to be that way. Yes, he's been pushing this healthcare bill right along. It stinks. There are much better solutions to getting healthcare for everybody. This one has me scared. It's socialism that won't work in America. Hasn't helped the UK. Canadians come to the US for surgery. What a mess! I'd be very interested in getting your take on it.

Thanks for keeping out front on this Rob. The sad part is that most parents have no clue what they are feeding their children and also have no clue how to find out if they are so inclined
