Want To Live Longer? #13 How Many Dark Green Leafy Vegetables Do You Eat Daily?

Do you eat four servings of vegetables every day?

I did not think so. How about dark green leafy vegetables?

Do you worry about getting osteoporosis?

Then you do take a multivitamin to make certain you are getting enough of the daily nutrients you need, right?

13. Vitamin K is known as the vitamin for the clotting factor.

Even though it is rarely deficient in the human diet in the United States, there are other things to look at here. You do already know how important it is to get the right kind of nutrients in your system on a daily basis.

Even though you may eat vegetables, you want to eat organic vegetables, because this way you will not be getting all those toxins from the pesticides into your system to wreak havoc on your liver, and maybe become toxic to your health.

1. There are three different kinds of this fat soluble vitamin. There is vitamin K1, and vitamin K2, and vitamin K3, of which vitamin K2 is the most biologically active.

2. There is no known toxicity for vitamin K1 or vitamin K2.

3. It is essential for the synthesis of certain proteins required for blood coagulation; and also essential for synthesis of osteocalcin and matrix Gla-protein, which are proteins in bone tissue; is essential for bone formation and repair, and bone quality is dependent on the presence of adequate vitamin K; is essential in liver function; and it promotes longevity.

4. Vitamin K also supports calcium metabolism in vascular structures.

5. It helps with excessive bleeding, nosebleeds, bruising, Diverticulitis, Hemorrhoids, Menorrhagia, Dysmenorrhea, Ulcerative Colitis, bedwetting, Hemophilia, Cystic Fibrosis, and Crohn's Disease.

6. Bacteria in the large intestine can produce some forms of vitamin K2 and can also convert vitamin K1 into vitamin K2.

7. One of the most studied forms or sub-types of vitamin K2 (menaquinone) is MK4 or menaquinone-4, (menatetranone). In Japan they have approved 45 mg of MK4 daily for treatment of Osteoporosis because research has shown that MK4 has reduced fractures, but the FDA has not followed suit in this.

8. Vitamin K2 however, has been shown to reduce bone loss and fractures in: Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Cirrhosis, Anorexia, stroke, and what has been caused by corticosteroids.

9. Vitamin K Cream in the proper formulation can minimize the reddened or bruised look of skin, and can help fade bruises, and even help improve the appearance of spider veins, Rosacea, and broken capillaries.

10. It is used by doctors, for patients on Warfarin, prior to surgeries, and as treatment in an overdose of Warfarin.

11. Vitamin K sources are mainly in cruciferous vegetables and dark leafy greens: dandelion greens, kale, spinach, cabbage, broccoli, collards, turnip greens, mustard greens, kiwi, green grapes, Brussels sprouts, Swiss chard, avocado, parsley, endive, asparagus, meat eggs, dairy, natto, cauliflower, blackstrap molasses, chicken, liver, oats, rye, yogurt, and wheat.

12. Current Dietary Reference Intake, DRI, for adult women of 90 mcg and adult men at 120 mcg.

13. Vitamin K deficiency symptoms are: internal bleeding, abnormal bleeding, and it may be caused by: use of antibiotics, liver disease, use of cholesterol lowering drugs, mineral oil, aspirin, blood thinners, insulin release, glucose regulation problems, Crohn's Disease or a poor or restricted diet.

14. However, it is usually not deficient in our diets because our bodies continually recycle vitamin K in our cells.

Results

Now that you have heard of vitamin K you can see for yourself how important this is in our bodies.

It has many functions to do things you have probably never even heard of before, but now you may have a better understanding of some new bodily functions.

Understanding how your own body works can help you have a better idea of how to treat it and take better care of it so that you do not become ill in the first place. It is called prevention, and it works the best.

"You are what you eat" means more than looking like a doughnut if you eat doughnuts. If you put processed food into your body that has no real nutrients in it but tastes great to you, then you are going to have a body that has some unreal, abnormal yet painful characteristics about it too.

It is much easier to use prevention of osteoporosis than to deal with it once you already have it.

Prevention is so much easier than curing the body once you have screwed it up. Most of the time, it is our bad habits that do the most damage.

Prevention may be harder because it takes more research and learning, and it may not taste as good as what you are used to until you find some new recipes and acquire new tastes. But it will surely take better care of your health.

It can be a new experience to eat healthy food but your body will cherish you for it, and that is what you want it to do.

Eating organic food can be the best thing you can do for your health.

Vitamin K? Quickly checked my breakfast bar and found 10% RDA there and I had yogurt today. Hm, kiwi and brussels sprouts ready for tomorrow. So I guess a get a few bits. Good info. Yikes! Having beat Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, I sure don't want to be at risk for a return. Better start counting the dark green leafies;) Don't know that I had any today though. Thanks for a heads up. Good article.
