Want To Live Longer? #8 It Is Not Healthy To Be Vitamin B Deficient - R U?

I have a friend who was just diagnosed with her second bout of cancer and she asked her doctor if she should be taking vitamin B complex and he said "NO".....What is wrong with this picture?

I will tell you. She is an HER-2 breast cancer survivor, which means that she had the hormone dependent kind of breast cancer.

8. Vitamin B complex can keep you from becoming anemic.

So her doctor telling her not to take a vitamin that has to be supplemented into our food system to make certain that everyone is getting enough is a good thing for her. Or is it?

If she eats bread she is getting B vitamins because they are supplemented in all flour. So did he tell her not to eat bread?

It can cause illnesses with its deficiency and this doctor said to my friend that she should not be taking this vitamin. This only means that it can be harmful for her, and may make her cancer come back.

I am appalled. The doctors do not know really what to say about how to deal with this situation.

The B Vitamins

Most people I know are taking vitamin B12 supplements, or even vitamin B12 shots. Vitamin B12, which is methylcobalamin, is one of those vitamins that it is hard to keep enough of it in your system. So much that you need to be given a large enough dose to constitute it being given in the form of a shot.

Your vitamin B complex of the B vitamins should be taken together so even if you are supplementing with vitamin B12, you should also be taking a B vitamin complex to keep them balanced. They work better when they are balanced because they all work together.

In the complex you will have vitamin B1 thiamine, B2 riboflavin, B3 niacin, B5 pantothenic acid, B6 pyridoxine, B12 methylcobalamin, and biotin vitamin H or CoEnzyme R, folic acid vitamin B9, inositol vitamin B8, and choline, which are all B vitamins.

These days some researchers are saying that pantothenic acid, which is vitamin B5, will cure your acne if you are getting enough of it. They are also saying that if you are deficient in it you will be overweight.

This is being said because vitamin B5 is needed to make your hormones and your body will let you use it for about 30 minutes of exercise then it will go back to making hormones with the remainder.

People trying to lose weight, or get out of obesity, can benefit from pantothenic acid too. You can burn fat for only 30 minutes unless you supplement with more vitamin B5.

Vitamin B5 is also needed to metabolize your fatty acids and without it you will have too much in your skin causing acne unless you supplement with vitamin B5. They are even making a drug called Pantothene for acne but they will not tell you that taking pantothenic acid, or vitamin B5, will cure your acne for you.

Vitamin B7, or biotin, is used by your body to relieve muscle pain, promote healthy sweat glands, give you healthy skin and hair, proper cell growth, and for the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. The deficiency of vitamin B7 or Biotin, can cause depression, anemia, hair loss, high blood sugar, and loss of appetite.

Choline is a necessary B vitamin that helps your body with gallbladder regulation, brain and memory function, proper transmission of nerve impulses, hormone production, liver function, and fat and cholesterol metabolism.

Folate, or folic Acid, which is vitamin B9, is one of the necessary B vitamins that is extremely important during pregnancy for the good health and development of the baby. Folic acid is a brain food that helps in energy production, strengthens immunity, is important for the proper function of white blood cells, RNA and DNA synthesis, cell division, cell replication and protein metabolism. Deficiency symptoms of vitamin B9, or folic acid, are anemia, graying hair, insomnia, and memory problems.

Inositol helps with the metabolism of fat and cholesterol, prevention of hardening of the arteries, the reduction of cholesterol, and is necessary for hair growth. A deficiency of inositol can lead to arteriosclerosis, constipation, hair loss, high cholesterol, irritability, mood swings, and skin eruptions.

Vitamin B1, or thiamine, is an antioxidant that helps protect the body from the degenerative effects of aging, alcohol consumption, and smoking. Thiamine is necessary to assist in carbohydrate metabolism, for proper cognitive activity, brain function, creating energy, growth, a normal appetite, and learning capacity.

Vitamin B2, or riboflavin, is necessary in energy metabolism, the metabolism of fats, ketone bodies, carbohydrates, and proteins. Riboflavin is necessary for: red blood cell formation, the nails, hair and skin, alleviating eye fatigue, eliminating dandruff, and Carpal Tunnel may benefit from riboflavin and vitamin B6 treatment.

I am certain by now you have all heard of niacin. Niacin is vitamin B3, or nicotinic acid. Niacin lowers cholesterol; improves circulation; is helpful for schizophrenia and other mental illnesses; and is a memory-enhancer. Niacin is needed for: proper circulation; healthy skin; the functioning of the nervous system; and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fat, and protein.

Vitamin B5, or pantothenic acid, has no toxicity and no adverse reactions. Vitamin B5 has been used successfully in many cases in obesity, diabetic ulcers and acne.

Some other deficiency symptoms can be: abdominal cramps, nausea, restlessness, sleep disturbances, apathy, vomiting, irritability, fatigue, general malaise, and even neurological symptoms. The neurological symptoms of vitamin B5 deficiency can be muscle cramps, numbness, and/or Paresthesia. Vitamin B5 deficiency has also been known to cause hypoglycemia and sometimes an increased sensitivity to insulin.

Vitamin B6, or pyridoxine, is involved in more bodily functions than almost any other single nutrient. It affects physical and mental health, and is required by the nervous system. Pyridoxine is necessary for: maintaining sodium and potassium balance; normal brain function; aiding in the absorption of vitamin B12; immune system function; and antibody production.

Vitamin B12, or methylcobalamin, is used to: prevent anemia and nerve damage; aid in the utilization of iron, proper digestion; absorption of foods; metabolism of carbohydrates and fats; cellular longevity; memory and learning; promote normal growth; and normal development by protecting the fatty sheaths covering the nerve endings.

There are many foods that contain the B vitamins mostly whole grains and meat but the egg is also a good source of at least 5 of these. Since I love eggs but love custard even more, I tend to eat the coconut custard pie as often as I can. It is my favorite dessert that is good for me. Besides we are all learning how good coconut is for you these days as well.

This is surely the most effective vitamin complex, and especially for a doctor to say to a patient not to take them is frightening. I realize that if this influences her body to make more hormones then it is something she should stay away from because of her HER-2 cancer, but at what cost to her health?

Poor health is better than cancer I guess.

These eight water-soluble vitamins work together for all these important roles in the functioning of the body. They work synergistically.

The highest content of B vitamins is in Brewers yeast. There a tendency for vegetarians to become B12 deficient and need to take B12, or methylcobalamin, shots because Vitamin B12 is not found in any plant food.

You can see my concern as to why any doctor would say to any patient not to take a supplement of vitamin B complex now that you see the processes that are involved with these vitamins. There is no toxicity of the B vitamin because the excess of these supplements is excreted in the urine, because they are all water-soluble.

We will go on to discuss your health and vitamin A and beta carotene.

I think it is thought that certain B vitamins can stimulate breast cancer. Might have something to do with hormones. I'm not sure. Also not all doctors agree with that assessment. The B's are very important. If a person has shingles or any nerve disorder, they need B vitamins. Thanks Kaite for a great piece on the B's.
