What Are the Signs Of Pancreatic Cancer?

Jazmine’s Diagnosis

What parent ever worries about their child being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer? What parent should ever have to worry about last wishes for their child? Whether their child will ever get married, or have a family of their own? I do. Hello everyone, my name is Cindy and I am writing to tell you that I am that parent. I want to create awareness about a disease where there are no tests for early detection; a disease whose early symptoms mimic those of pancreatitis (and if you’re a young adult, will probably be diagnosed as such), until it is too late. A disease where there really is no such thing as prevention for pancreatic cancer and a disease where the survival rate is minimal. I also want to let my readers know the effect that pancreatic cancer has had on not only Jazmine, but on her friends and family. This disease is Jazmine’s battle but my pain.

My beautiful twenty-four year old daughter, Jazmine was diagnosed this past June 2012 with Stage IV Pancreatic cancer. As you can imagine, we are HEART-BROKEN. Words cannot convey the pain that I feel every morning when I wake up, and every night as I get ready to go to sleep. There were no symptoms of pancreatic cancer prior to the diagnosis. She thought she had pancreatitis, which is what her doctors told her. It was not until this past June that she was told differently. We were on the internet checking the survival rates for pancreatic cancer, and we found that there were not many survivors passed the five year mark. Although each case is unique, this offered little hope for us.

I continue to remind my daughter that she is young and her situation is distinctive. Just because there are not many survivor stories on the internet, doesn’t mean that none exist.

So, why am I telling you Jazmine’s story? First to build awareness that these cancers can affect even the very young and secondly, because I am praying that you will find it in your heart to help us by making a donation to the Don’t Stop Believing Fighting for a friends journey. The proceeds are being used to help my daughter with medical costs associated with treating pancreatic cancer. Unfortunately her insurance does not cover all of the costs connected with her treatments.

A mother’s worst fears

When I think of what Jazmine is facing and what she goes through on a daily basis, my tears stream down my face. Why should she have to worry about how much time she has here on Earth? Or, whether chemo is killing off the cancer? She should be having fun with her friends and living life to the fullest. Everything that Jazmine fears is what I have feared. I want my daughter to get married one day and have children. I want her to have the career of her dreams. I try so hard to remain positive, and yet when I’m alone, my worst fears plague me. I spend every morning before going into work, crying. Pretending like I am ok, when I know that I am not. A dark cloud hovers over me every day and I see no end in sight.

Even after two rounds of chemo, my daughter looks well. She doesn’t appear to be fighting a huge battle against cancer, and yet I know that she is. My child has two more rounds to go and I pray that her body remains strong enough to defeat this horrible cancer. I often wonder if God forbid the current chemo treatments don’t work, if there are clinical trials for pancreatic cancer? So far, from what I have researched, there are not too many options available to her.

There are times that I look in the mirror and ask God why her and not me? Yet I know that this is not a good thing for me to be asking. I don’t know what to say to alleviate her fears, to help her continue to fight the fight. I want her to be optimistic and not give up hope. Sometimes I do not have the right words and I hate myself for it.

All I ask is that if you are reading this that you find it in your heart to please make a donation to Don’t Stop Believing Fighting for a friends journey to help my baby continue with her treatments; treatments that are not completely covered by her insurance. This is her only chance of surviving this. If you’re reading this, I thank you for taking the time to hear Jazmine’s story. If a donation is not possible at this time, then I ask that you say a prayer for her. Thank you so much for your time and patience.

I agree with Sister Kaite that its worth looking into Salvestrols. I have read up about them and there are some cases on the internet where salvestrols have been used to treat pancreatic cancer which you can find if you google . I'm telling you this beacuase my friend was diagnosed with incurable pancreatic cancer and for him chemotherapt had no effect on the cancer. He started taking salvestrol platinum supplements and said he started to feel better soon after taking them. Two months later he went for a scan and the tumours had reduced by half. He told me yesterday that he has had his latest scan, 6 months after being on salvestrols, and has been given the all clear. As you can imagine he was over the moon and had to tell everyone he knew so it was great to hear that he has done so well.
