Considering Divorce A Marriage Counselor Can Help You Save Your Marriage

If you are considering divorce, you should see a marriage counselor to save your marriage. There are several therapists out there who claim to be marriage counselors, but how can you identify counselors who can actually help save your marriage? This write-up will provide you with a list of things to keep in mind when searching for a family therapist.

To start with, you should check out the kind of credentials they possess. Marriage counselors are of three basic categories.

The first category is the Psy.D. or Ph.D level therapist. These individuals attended graduate school where they spent no less than 5 years and submitted a dissertation. Additionally, they carried out at least 3000 hours of counselling with an experienced psychologist supervising their work. Before an individual can legitimately be referred to as a clinical psychologist, he or she must have a doctorate. People who hold a Ph.D are commonly more scholarly and tend to perform forensic and academic work together with therapy.

The second category is the Master of Social Work (M.S.W). Social Workers are taught to make use of social theory in particular circumstances. These people can attend to individuals or work in institutions.

The last category is people who have M.A or M.S. in Counseling. Commonly referred to as "Marriage and Family Counselor," these counselors can only attend to small groups or individuals in counseling situations. These therapists tend to possess two year degrees and might not have submitted a thesis. They possess 1500 hours of supervised counseling.

If your marriage therapy will be covered by your insurance, then the insurance company you deal with will most likely ask you to see an MSW due to the fact that they are less costly.

Second, it is important that you find out what the counseling will cost you. Clinical psychologists are usually the costliest while the least expensive are Marriage and Family Counselors. Keep in mind that your goal is to prevent divorce. You are looking for the best counselor who can help save your marriage and not the least (or most) expensive professional.

Find out the amount you will have to pay per session plus the total cost for the estimated duration of therapy.

Usually, non profit institutions or counselors working in groups will charge for their services according to the ability of the couple to pay. You may be able to obtain affordable counseling from groups like this.

Third, you have to examine the therapist's policies. Some of the policies therapists work with are:

1.What will happen if you cancel or fail to show up for a session?

2.If you go on a pre-planned holiday, will you be charged for the session?

3.Will the counselor take calls when you are not having a normal session with him or her? Can you call the at home or only at the office?

A family therapist should help you reunite your family so that there will be no need for a divorce. Their main goal should be to preserve your marriage. If you feel that you and your therapist are not in harmony, you should find another counselor who is capable of helping you save your marriage.

Street Talk

For me, as a married woman, when a situation arise, like there is misunderstanding between my partner it would be good to talk right away the problem before worst comes to worst, but there are instances in which both are not comfortable to talk with this issue. In this regard, it would be recommended to talk with therapist irvine and keeping the marriage save.
