There are many reasons that prompt married couples to divorce. From an extramarital affair to financial issues to boredom, if you want to end your marriage there are an abundance of reasons. That does not mean though that there is no hope for your marriage.
Listed are the top five divorce reasons and how to avoid them:
The first, and perhaps biggest, divorce reason is infidelity. While infidelity may be cited as the reason for divorce, there are many reasons that spouses choose to look outside of the marriage for intimacy. To prevent this from happening to you, make sure that you make time for each other. Schedule a date night, hold hands, and tell your spouse you love them whenever the mood strikes. Small displays of affection often mean more than big romantic gestures, so don’t hold back!
Lack of communication is another reason that couples divorce. If you are not talking to your spouse, then you do not know what he or she is thinking or how he or she is feeling. It is important to talk to your spouse every day, even if you just talk about what happened at work or what happened with the kids during the day. Keeping the lines of communication open will help both partners feel more comfortable when it comes time to discuss bigger issues. So, keep talking!
Another divorce reason occurs due to disagreements over finances. In order to avoid problems in this area, spouses should be able to talk open and honestly about the household finances. Whether money is plentiful or finances are tight, make sure that you communicate where the money is going. Creating a budget and sticking to it will help to reduce disagreements in this area.
Boredom is often cited as a reason for divorce. In order to avoid the marriage rut, insert a little spice into your daily life. Eating dinner by candlelight, scheduling a date night, or even watching your favorite movie together can help to alleviate the monotony of marriage. Remember, variety is the spice of life!
Finally, sexual incompatibility. While men and women reach their sexual peaks roughly 10 years apart, this does not mean that sex needs to be monotonous or boring in the meantime. You and your spouse should communicate with each other regarding wants and needs and likes and dislikes. It is important to remember to make time for each other. Don’t be afraid to try something new just to keep things interesting!
I know marriage can be tough for you at times. But if you sit down and take an honest look at your relationship, I can bet will find that, with a little work, you will have the solution to the problem that is threatening your marriage.
