7 questions to ask yourself before you build yourself a shed.
If you are a novice carpenter and would like to build yourself a shed you should get everything in order before you start. You should always have a plan and to do this you need to get yourself a good set of step by step plans that you can follow.Make a list of questions before you start. This list will probably help you.
1. Why do I need to build a shed?
Are you going to build a shed for storage of garden equipment, garden tools and garden supplies? Will your shed be used for family equipment biles and sports equipment? Mabe your wife has some things she would like to store. Whatever it may be descide and get the proper plans.
2. How big do I want to build my shed ?
When you have made up your mind what you are going to store in your shed you can get the plans. If your shed is for garden equipment, garden toola and aupplies make your shed big enough in case you want to add to your garden equipmena and tools. If your shed is for your wife and kids make sure it is big enough to store their sports equipment and bikes and anything you want to store in the future.
3. Where will I build my shed?
When you are picking a place in your garden don't pick a place that will interfere with your wife's flower garden. Make sure it don't hide things in your garden. Build your shed behind the house if possible but don't put it somewhere where it is inaccessible.
4. Will my shed need to be weather proofed and insulated?
You may need to insulate your shed if you live somewhere the winters ar cold and harsh. If you have a lot of rainy weather you will defintely need to weather proof your shed.
5. Do I need a permit to build?
You will need to check with your town council to see if their by-laws require a premit to build sheds. It maybe that you only need a permit for a certain size of shed .If a permit is required get one it could keep ypu from a lot of headached in the future. If you need a permit you will have to get the council to inspect it and make it is built according to their specs.
6. An important question is how much can you afford?
One of the very first things you will have to do is descide how much you are willing to spend. Then you will have to make up alist of materials. After you have your list of materials go to your local hardware store for a price on your materials.
7. Where do I get plans?
After you have all this done you will need a set of building plans so do sone research and get a good set of step by step building plans.
