Carpentry Information - Carpentry Hand Tools

This article will cover some carpentry information for newcomers to the craft and information on the basic carpentry hand tools. Most men you come across will try to give you some advice on carpentry when they find out you are interested in starting. The problem is most men don't really know enough to be giving out carpentry information and are not good at it. There are woodworking or carpentry lessons at night college and you can find some good carpentry information here - going online and purchasing a beginners guide is another option open to you.

Fact is that most of the little jobs that need doing around the house are going to need a bit of woodworking or carpentry. There are two types of tools associated with carpentry - carpentry hand tools and certain types of power tools. The main carpentry information is centered around knowing how to read and successfully construct from plans. The ability to be able to measure wood and mark out correctly is also essential carpentry information that needs to be learned.

Basic carpentry techniques that are usually covered within the first few weeks of being taught include joinery. Joinery covers glued joints to dovetail joints and is a basic starting point for most wannabe woodworkers. As I mentioned earlier we will cover a few of the basic carpentry hand tools that are needed when learning carpentry. Firstly ( the most obvious of tools needed ) you should purchase a sturdy hammer and a reliable saw - no carpenter will ever be without these.

After this it is a good idea to purchase a few boxes of various sized screws and nails - always keep these in specific boxes and do not mix the sizes up. After the hammer and saw you should look at a set of chisels and gouges - these are very traditional hand tools and come in very handy. Most carpentry information will point out the amount of measuring and marking you are going to have to do in a woodwork project. This measuring and marking is going to need a measuring tape and framing square ( especially when it comes to most aspects of joinery ).

Power tools are all the range these days and you should probably get used to them sooner rather than later. It is always an idea to purchase a spare set of power tool cables or extension cords as these will come in very useful. Remember - safety is always paramount in carpentry so a pair of woodworking goggles should be the first thing on your purchase list. There is plenty of carpentry information online offered in various formats and I suggest you check out a few dedicated websites for more info. Good luck with your carpentry journey, I hope it brings you many hours of pleasure.
