DIY Woodworking Projects For The Handy Challenged

Do you feel you're handy challenged when it comes to doing any type of DIY woodworking projects? The woodworking craft can seem very intimidating, especially when you're not that great working with your hands. Not to worry because I believe anybody can learn a skill such as this one.

Think back to when you were in middle school or high school. Did you ever take wood shop or any kind of arts & crafts class? I'm sure a lot of you did although perhaps many of you did not. Don't worry if you didn't it's not the end of the world.

Anyway thinking back, I was in 7th grade at the time but I remember the first wood project I ever did was a coat rack which is a good beginners project. It's not as complicated as it seems, take a rectangular piece of pine wood, drill a few holes and glue some dowels in them.

Not that I'm trying to sound technical about it but nevertheless it's a pretty basic project to start out with. Although if you do have basic woodworking skills already, something like this would be great to teach your kids.

Another good project idea would be something a little bigger like a small bookcase. It's good for learning how to make a square box with a couple of shelves in it. Keep in mind that these are just merely examples of the thousands of different things you can build from wood.

Now let's say the next thing might be assembling an entertainment center, sometimes it's better to learn how to put things together first so you can see the thought process on how things are built.

It also gives you a good picture when you can visibly see the finished product, not to mention all the different ideas on how you can make one yourself. Believe it or not you'll find yourself coming up with different visions on what your ideal woodworking masterpiece is going to be.

As you get better you work your way up to larger scale projects, whether that be building a shed for your garden, or building a deck around your pool, or putting up moulding around your doors and windows.

Either way all beginners need guidance when getting started with anything new. The best thing is everything is online these days, just go on the internet and print out what you need. Some books are good resources as well just make sure everything is up to date.

The point I'm making is never be afraid to explore your options, there's a lot more information out there these days compared to years ago. Don't be afraid to venture into the unknown folks, we all have to start somewhere. I hope this article has been helpful to the handy challenged people out there.
