Do It Yourself Solar Power For Homes - Save Money

There are many reasons to install a solar energy system onto your home. The first major reason is to cut back on monthly utility bills. Electricity and gas bills run average households in the neighborhood of $200-$300 per month. Solar energy could at least cut those bills dramatically, if not replace them altogether. The fact is, we rely on a limited resource for almost all of our energy needs. When fossil fuels run out, which they are projected to in the next several decades, we will need to have other energy sources available to meet our energy needs. Solar power is one alternative, and has advantages over the other alternative energy sources. Lets look at why and how to set up a solar power system in your home.

Solar power is a clean, unlimited and free energy source. Basically, sun light is captured by solar panels and converted into electricity to be used in your home. You are only limited in how much energy you harvest by how many panels you can afford and how much real estate you have to install the panels on. Because solar power systems can be installed on virtually every home on the planet, they have the potential to provide a power source for each home.

The major drawback for installing a solar power system is the cost. Installation and materials can run you anywhere from 5 to 25 thousand dollars, depending on how much energy you want to produce. That can be a significant investment for any home owner. Do it yourself solar power for homes installation will cut some of the costs, but it will still be costly. It is not a very difficult process, but you will need to have basic construction and electricity knowledge. Do some research on finding the best prices for solar panels, inverters and batteries. The installation of the panels is simple enough, just make sure to angle the panels properly to harvest the maximum amount of light.

One tip that is very important to remember is to have a certified electrician on hand to connect the incoming solar power (or the lines from your battery array) into your circuit box. Not doing so could void your home owner insurance policy. Keep that in mind. Solar power is a free energy source that has the potential, as technology improves and as prices come down, to power each home. If you are interested in do it yourself solar power for homes installation, be sure to do your homework before jumping into this project. Good luck!
