I have mentioned before that having your own custom built workbench to fit your needs as a woodworker is absolutely paramount. As you get further and further into your hobby and even move into become a professional, making wood projects as a full time job, why not build your very own woodworking shop? Having your own workbench is an important way to make sure that your style and individual organization techniques are met while you are working. Having your own workshop is a great way to keep your supplies and tools organized in a way that makes sense to you. However, finding woodworking shop plans is a nightmare, everyone has a special way of doing it and it becomes hard to draw inspiration.
There was a time when my workbench was just an old table I got at a garage sale. There was a time when my "workshop" was just the garage. With the presence of a lawnmower, paint and tools that aren't needed for woodworking it can be frustrating. I hate having that feeling of being cramped. For people who don't build or work in their spare time they just assume this is "claustrophobia", which is honestly a ridiculous thing to say. They don't understand what it means to have a clear space dedicated to your art and how much that effects your thinking and performance.
Building your own workshop is a big step, it takes a lot of time and possibly a lot of money but it is worthwhile. it really does help to have your own thinking space, a place where you can escape into your work and really concentrate on mastering the art of woodworking. Think of it as a distraction free space that allows you to go to and really get things done. It allows you to keep proper timetables for your customers, loved ones, or even for your personal goals.
I can not imagine not having my own workshop anymore. When I first decided I was going to build one I spent a lot of time going over what I needed and how I wanted it to be. But when I came across some proper and well put together woodworking shop plans there was so much I didn't even think of. Without those plans I would have built that entire workshop and not left enough space for enough pegboards and even, and this is really fancy, a display table. I'm incredibly glad I came across my resource for woodworking, it is my lifeblood and I hope others find it and enjoy it too.
