Keeping your dog healthy is one of the most important things you can do for it. Improving your dogs diet is a sure fire way to achieving this so knowing exactly what your dog is eating will be a big advantage. The best way to do this is to try to make some homemade dry dog food. By making your own dog food you will be able to pick and choose exactly what ingredients you will be feeding your dog. If your dog gets an upset stomach with certain foods or is allergic to certain foods you can just leave these foods out.

With wet dog food it has a very short shelf life. Dry dog food can be made in larger quantities and can be stored for much longer periods and is a much cheaper alternative to buying from the local supermarkets. The dry dog foods in supermarkets always contain a large amount of filling ingredients which include certain additives. These additives are said to be the largest reason for certain illnesses and allergies that your dog can suffer from so by making your own food you can also save money by staying away from the dreaded vet.

Saving money is a big help when keeping a dog and the homemade style of dried dog food is always much higher in nutrient goodness than the supermarket brands. This means that you have to feed your dog less of the homemade food as it gets full up much quicker than when eating branded dog food. The dog will produce less waste in toilet situations when being fed dry homemade dog food ( this makes the horrible job of cleaning up after them a lot less hideous ).

Commercial dog food which is found in supermarkets is very over-processed and this leads to it not containing many important nutrients and proteins. Obviously, not all the branded dog foods are like this but you will find that the under-processed foods will be very expensive to buy. If you do not want to cook ( or feel you are not confident enough to create the food ) there is various amounts of high quality 'kibble' that you can buy from certain dog stores. When added to normal dog food meats this combination turns out to be very healthy and nutritious.

So make your decision. By making your own food you are paying much more attention to your dogs health and in turn keeping it away from the vet. Quite a lot of supermarket dog foods can be the cause of poor health in your dog but they turn out to be a cheap and quick choice.
