What are dog strollers?
If you own a Bichon Frise or other small to medium breed of dog, you may have noticed that dog strollers are becoming a popular accessory to buy for your pampered pup. A dog stroller is just what it sounds like, and is very similar to the strollers you use for babies and toddlers. Another way to think of a dog stroller is it's basically a soft sided pet carrier built into a wheeled frame.
Why would I need one?
First of all, let's be real for a moment, I do not think there are many pet owners out there who actually need a dog stroller. Perhaps a better phrase would be, why would I want one. There are several situations where this type of item can be useful. The top two reasons are your dogs comfort, and the desire to travel and take your dog with you when you are out and about day to day.
Comforting for your dog
If your Bichon Frise is sometimes overwhelmed in crowded or busy places like festivals, city sidewalks and stores, being inside the confines of the stroller may make them feel more secure and reduce the level of anxiety they experience. Even if your Bichon is not shy, he may still like the option to escape to what amounts to a cozy little dog bed on wheels. From the stroller, your pet can nap, relax or simply watch the world go by. Another benefit is the reduced possibility that your Bichon will be accidently stepped on by a passerby because they are so low to the ground.
Easier to travel
If you frequently travel with your Bichon Frise or other dog, you have most likely been in situations where you want to complete an errand or pop into a shop, but your Bichon is not welcome to go in with you. Often times if the dog is inside a stroller, he will go unnoticed and you won't experience the objections you otherwise would. Most people assume it's a baby stroller and don't give you a second glance. Those who do notice, will usually strike up a conversation about either the stroller or your Bichon. Having a dog stroller makes it much easier to take your dog with you.
Features to consider
If you decide to purchase a stroller for your Bichon Frise, there are a few features that you may want to consider. Storage is a great convenience if you are going to be shopping or going to festivals. Baskets underneath the stroller are a great place to stash your Bichon's supplies for the day and also any purchases you make. A cup holder is built into some models, and that's always useful for helping to free up your hands. Color may or may not be important to you. Some Bichon Frise owners with female dogs love everything girly and choose one of the pink strollers on the market. Other pet parents regardless of their pets gender, prefer to keep their purchases a tad more neutral. It's really a personal choice as to what you find appealing as far as color selection. Finally, think about size, consider where you will store your new stroller in your home, and also make sure the stroller you choose will fit easily inside your vehicle.
