Chicken And Cheese Dog Treats

For those of you that would really like to treat your dog to a fantastic dog treat. This, chicken and cheese dog treat is my favorite one to make. It was also Muggsey's favorite to eat! You'll need to make sure that you have several ingredients on hand before you begin.

1. First you'll need to make home made chicken stock, I make it using chicken backs and then I make enough that I can freeze a few, two cup containers for future use. (you can use pre-made stock but the list of chemicals is ridiculous.) and they can harm your dog over time. Hint let the chicken stock cool over night in the fridge, use a spoon to take off the chicken fat that has formed on top of the stock. It's fine if there's a little chicken meat in the stock, just make sure it's very finely shredded. no big chunks.

Dry ingredients

2. You'll need 1-1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 4 cups of Unbleached Flour, 2 cups of oatmeal, 1/8 cup of oat bran and 1/8 cup of ground flax seed.

Wet Ingredients

You need 2 cups of homemade chicken stock, try not to use much chicken skin. As the biscuits will not stay fresh or last as long because of the chicken fat that in the biscuits, it gets rancid and then molds.

Use my hint above regarding chicken fat.

Mixing the Dry Ingredients

Take the dry ingredients and using a mixer, mix in the 4 cups of unbleached flour first. Then the cups of oatmeal, (quick oats is fine) then add, 1 cup of cheese, by slowly by hand sprinkling in pinches of the cheese in to the dry flour. Then mix in the bran, and finally the ground flax seed last.

Mixing the Wet Ingredients

Take the 2 cups of fat skimmed chicken stock, put that in a separate mixing bowl. Put the remaining wet ingredients in the same bowl and mix that up well. You will put in three whole eggs (no shells), You'll put in 1/8 cup of olive oil, then 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt, and 1/8 teaspoon of baking soda. Whip that up with an eggbeater making sure all the ingredients a combine well together.

Now, with your dry ingredients on the mixer running on slow speed. Slowly, pour the wet ingredients into the flour mixture. Making sure that it all mixes evenly. As you get to about 2/3's through the wet ingredients it will start getting doughy. Using a mixing spoon make sure to use all the dry ingredients into the dough you need to use the rest of the wet ingredients. When all is mixed you'll have a 5 lb dough ball.

Pre-heat your over to 350 degrees

Now it's time to roll out the dough, sprinkle a little flour on the counter were your going to roll out the dough. Roll it out and add more flour as needed until you can work with the dough without it sticking to the counter and your hands.

Roll it out to about a x large pizza size, or 1/2 inch thick. now grab a hand full of cheese, and sprinkle it on the top side of the dough. Now your ready to cut out the biscuit shapes. We use what else, dog bone cookie cutters! place the biscuits on a non stick cookie sheet.

Now bake at 350 for 40 minutes, after that turn the oven down to it's lowest setting an bake for 2 more hours, if you left a lot of meat or chicken fat and skins in the stock, it dry it longer maybe three hours. Your biscuit will be a hit. Your dog will grab it an run way with them guaranteed!

If you eat them, while there warm, Chicken and Cheese dog biscuits, aren't bad with a cup of coffee.
