Tell me one person who doesn't want their beloved pets to live a long, healthy life? Whether your pet is a cat, dog, ferret, or even a bird, you want what's best for him and that includes being healthy and happy. We all want our pets to live long, healthy lives because when they are happy, we are happy, and when they are suffering, we are suffering, too. When I first found out about all the benefits of organic coconut oil, I read that it's also safe for our pets.
Of course, I was researching organic coconut oil for myself, not imagining that it can have the same health benefits for my pets. As with anything, it's always a good idea to consult your doctor when starting on something new in your diet especially if you have a lot of health concerns. The same goes for our pets, you should always check with your vet. However, the recommended dose for our furry friends is 1/4 teaspoon for every 10 pounds, twice a day.
Also, it's best to start out slowly when first introducing organic coconut oil to your pets. Like any food, you or your pet could be allergic to it, so it's always best to slowly introduce it to the body. I started out by putting 1/2 teaspoon in my coffee for a few days, then slowly increased it. For my pug, I started out with just a small amount in his water bowl and slowly worked my way up to his recommended dose. It can be added to their water or food bowl.
My friend feeds it to her ferret daily and she said her pet is very active and is having normal stools, which was a problem for her. She definitely sees a change for the better in her ferret plus his coat is shiny and healthy. She also feels really confident about giving her pet coconut oil because it's supposed to be really good for the teeth, gums, and bad breath. This, too, was a big concern for me. I tend to worry about the dental health of my pug and it's great to know that coconut oil will help improve it.
Coconut oil for pets can be used two ways: taken internally and applied externally. It boosts the immune system when ingested and helps soothe, treat, and heal skin conditions when used externally. Such skin conditions include itchy skin, flea allergies, eczema or dermatitis. It also works to prevent and treat yeast infections, heal wounds, and give your pet a healthy coat. Coconut oil contains 50% lauric acid which gives it its anti-properties: anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral, and anti-microbial, also containing antioxidants.
Coconut oil for pets will help with their immune system by increasing their energy, help with preventing and controlling diabetes, for normal thyroid function, arthritis, and helps reduce weight. Continued use will help improve digestion, treat or even eliminate bad breath, improve his dental health, help his body to absorb vitamins and nutrients, and help heal stomach disorders such as colitis and inflammation. If you love your pets, as I know you do, introduce coconut oil to him and see how good he'll feel.
This is a very interesting article! Like many, I have heard about the numerous benefits of coconut oil for humans but never dreamed it would be good for my dog too! Thanks for sharing this info!
