We all know there are many dangerous foods for dogs roaming around. A lot of them even tend to be within our own household. It's easily researched online, but people still tend to overlook the basics that should be avoided. People always touch the subject of chocolate, but it's not just chocolate.. but the caffeine in many other products as well that can harm your animal. Although fruits and vegetables has become a very popular treat and supplement for dogs, there are still some that should be avoided at all costs. Any fruit that contains a pit could potentially be very harmful. Over and over again, dogs are rushed to the emergency vet due to obstructions in their intestines. This can be just as deadly as any poison.
Other foods we tend to find in our fridge can also be very harmful to your dog. Simple everyday things such as grapes, raisins, mushrooms.. these all contain toxins that can slowly poison vital organs. One dog I owned used to love onions, until I found out that they were also very dangerous to consume. I cannot stress enough to fully research what foods to give and not give your dog. I'm a very cautious person when it comes to my samoyed, and I look up EVERYTHING now to make sure it's good for him.
A lot of people also believe in the raw food diet. This is a very tricky area. I've known breeders that only use this method of diet for their dogs. Where this is fine, they also have reputable sources they obtain meat from. I would never try it myself, there are so many forms of bacteria that could infect and be fatal. Please never feed your dog raw meat, especially if it's been sitting out. I would never recommend it.
In other ways, try to think of your dog in terms of what you intake. Also limit the amounts of salt and sugar. Your pooch friend can have obesity issues just as easilly as any person can. The same for table scraps. It's easy to look into those sad, sad eyes as your dog woefully begs for just a small bite. But refrain! Table scraps aren't balanced in any way, and the more you give.. the more they will beg. To me, it's a really bad cycle that should never begin. Not only can scraps of food be harmful to your dog, it can also lead to unwanted behavioral issues.
I just want to stress yet again how important it is to fully research anything you give your dog. If you question it in any way, look it up! I want my dog to be healthy and happy the rest of his life.. and I hope you do also.
