If you own a dog you need dog flea protection.

There are a plethora of flea and tick products on the market today and it can be very confusing and overwhelming to try and pick one that is right for you and your dog. I mean some of them kill fleas, some repel fleas, some kill and repel, some kill flea eggs others only kill the fleas. Do you want a dog flea protection regimen that disrupts the flea life cycle? or do you just want to kill a bunch of the nasty little critters?

Dog flea protection tip # 1 As I said there are a wide range of flea products on the market today. Almost every one of them has a different active pesticide ingredient. For this reason, when you start a dog flea protection program you need to do a little bit of experimentation to see which one of these active ingredients actually works best for your dog. Keep in mind also that fleas may have a tendency to become immune to the pesticide that you are currently using after a period of time. That's why it's a good idea to switch products about once a year or so to keep the little buggers on their toes.

Dog flea protection tip # 2 When choosing a flea protection product it's important to know the differences in the various methods available. The most common these days is the topical or "Spot-on" type treatment. In this method you apply a certain amount of the pesticide to the dogs back up between the shoulder blades and let in absorb into the dog. Other methods include collars, flea dips, and oral applications. most of these are effective in one way or another nut the spot on method is currently the most popular and effective.

Dog flea protection tip # 3 As stated above, flea products vary widely in the type of insecticide used and the length of time they are effective. They also vary widely as to where in the flea life cycle they are designed to kill and or repel the flea. As such, you need to decide what exactly you want the flea product to do for you and then read very carefully the product literature before deciding which one to purchase.

Most all brand name flea products on the market today will work for you dog flea protection program. Just remember to carefully decide what level of protection your dog needs and choose form there. You can buy almost all of the major brands online at very good prices.
