With A Little Bit Of Help Comes Success
If you have a hard time teaching basic commands to your dog when using traditional dog training techniques, then try using dog training aids. Many frustrated dog owners choose dog obedience training classes to achieve the desired results, but there are some cost effective dog training aids that you can use yourself at home and will help you in taking control of your dog.
Before you begin your dog training regime, you must understand and avoid a common mistake that many pet owners make while trying different dog training techniques. From hours of observation it seems to me that some dog owners believe that by shouting at the top of their voices "SIT", or "STOP", and also by waving their hands at their dog, the dog will understand these commands, but this is not always true.
Although dogs may develop a semblance of understanding after a few weeks, raising your voice and shouting is not the best approach. The real problem is not about deafness or speed of training, but its processing.
* Clicker Dog Training
Although not known to many dog owners, it is one of the best dog training aids that work well with any breed of dog. Even if, you' have never heard of the term "clicker training", you will have witnessed a few examples of this type of dog training if you have watched any of these movies i.e. beer fetching retrievers, skateboarding bulldogs, Beethoven, Babe the Pig, etc. Go and check out a few of these animal antics on DVD and you will be amazed by the effects that powerful clicker training can have on your canine friend.
The clicker is a little noisemaking device that has been developed to address the needs of leading behaviorists to evolve a highly effective training method. Aside from being more effective than other dog training methods, it is also extremely gentle and ensures a "hands off" approach to pet training. What your dog will actually learn is to associate the sharp and strong sound of the clicker that is audible from 20-25 yards, with your given command.
*Is clicker training effective?
Well, with proper training, dogs can recall tasks for years after initial training, even when there is no further follow up. This technique was also used by the US Dept. of Defence for training dogs for undercover missions in the 1950s.
While clicker training can be easy, be sure to follow correct techniques to get the desired results. Therefore do not buy the device and "try" your best guess at training but istead do some research and find out more about the recommended clicker dog training strategies to avoid disappointment.
.* Leash and Harness
This is the most commonly used dog training aid. A harness that fits snugly around the dogs upper body quickly helps a trainer to teach the dog to heel. With a slight tug of the leash it is now easy to pull the dog back.
The leash and harness is also used for dogs that have difficulty in restraining themselves while walking.
.* Toys
Many toys are also effective dog training aids and can be used for redirecting a number of behavioral issues, such as boredom, anxiety and even teething. While choosing toys for a puppy, please ensure that they are safe in design and size. Also get specifically made toys for dogs sold at pet stores. There are many great deals to be found at online pet stores.
Old stuffed dolls and animals belonging to children are not the best alternatives because they contain small buttons, glass parts and pieces of plastics that can pose a danger to your dog.
You can try any of these dog training aids and techniques for their obvious benefits of teaching good behavior. These dog training aids can be of great benefit when trying to teach your dog do tricks.
