People today are way too caught up in the media and what other people think. One topic, or should I say one specific breed of animal that the media has given you (the people) the wrong impression of is the American Pitbull Terrier. Even if a dog isn't a American Pitbull but it looks like one, that dog is considered a "dangerous" animal. Let me clear one thing up with you, if a dog is vicious or doesn't know how to behave properly the owner is 100% at fault. When dogs are born they aren't born vicious, some may be a little more head strong or stubborn than others, but they are never born with the instinct to hurt people. It's actually the opposite; hence the name mans best friend.
American Pitbulls are like the Spartans of their time. These dogs were bred to help their owners hunt, whether it be bears, boars, deer etc.. This is the main reason humans turn these precious animals into fighters in the dog world. But even then, those fighting dogs may be vicious towards each other, but when it comes to people they LOVE them and just want to be loved by them. It's absolutely disgusting for a human to think he can raise any precious puppy into a killer to make a little bit of money. GET A REAL JOB. These dogs get a bad reputation because of ignorant HUMANS who should know better than to abuse these poor animals.
The most ironic thing is American Pitbulls are the best with HUMANS, the best with CHILDREN. With that being said the animal still needs to be trained, but I've personally never seen a better animal interact with a human. To continue with another ironic fact, most of the dog bites that occur usually happen with a smaller dog like a cocker spaniel or shih tzu. One of the reasons for this is the difference in pain tolerance a smaller verse bigger dog would have.
American Pitbulls having a lot of tolerance towards pain, they can deal with a child pulling at its ear or tail and think nothing of it. On the other hand, a smaller dog would probably be in a lot of pain if a child who didnt know its own strength was yanking on its ears and tail. Please don't be fooled by what the media wants you to think. In life when you don't know something it's always best to get educated. Do your research. Don't look over a precious American pitbull puppy because of what people may say or think. Talk to the breeder or whoever it is you're buying your puppy from. Do research on the breed first. Now go give a puppy your love. God bless.
True! Shelters are full of pits. Whenever someone asked me to recommend a dog i'd point out one of our sweet American pit bulls and they'd say something like, "don't you have anything like a lab?" Yeah, labs who have a higher bite rate than pits...
You are so right! When people single out a breed as being dangerous it makes me so mad. My husband and I have two dobermans another "vicious" breed. They are very sweet and loving. Our male dobe had cancer a few years ago and underwent 26 weeks of chemo. Try doing that with a vicious dog.
I love dobermans. I have two pit mixes a rotti lab and a american bulldogxbullmastiff mix. You wouldnt believe the nasty and dirty looks i get walking down my block. My dogs listen and are very well behaved but because they look a certain way they're visious or you have to be carefukl around them. Mean while a old black lab wonders the neighborhod running up tp random people, but thats ok? Its unbelievable how people can judge ans make assumptions. Its very frustrating, I stay positive because i know there are so many dog lovers out there and connecting with them out weighs the arrogance of others. Good luck with your dog, I pray he gets better.
Oh he is fine. They gave him a couple of years after the chemo. He is now on year six. He is turning 11 next month and he is in great shape. He has definitely beat the odds.
