We thought about getting another boxer (photo will be here)
My Wife and I have been talking about getting another boxer to play with Jersey and keep her company. We had heard from boxer rescue that they need to find a home for a dog, And since we areNJBR volunteers, we decided that we might be able to help this dog out.
But, would two females get along?
Our only concern was that the Foster was a female. Sometimes two females just won't get along, but we thought we would a least do a meet and greet with the two dogs and see how it goes.We met our prospective foster dog a 4 yr, old girl named Isabella.
She has bounced around from home to home we would be the third family to bring her home if we decided to foster her. So, on Friday afternoon the two dogs met each other at another NJBR volunteer's horse farm. It was a pretty good place to meet because, both dogs had never seen horses, and the dogs had plenty of smells to occupy themselves with.
The property was several acres and we went for a walk with both dogs to help them bond. After the walk we brought them in to a large birthing stall where we like the dogs loose together to see how they would react to each other. So far everything was going very well.
They played with each other and we thought it would be okay to bring her home with us so we did. The minute we got home the two dogs were playing we each other and you could swear theses dogs were litter mates the way they've bonded in such a short period of time.
They share toys and it's great to see them both so happy. If you have the room and can afford to feed another dog. I highly recommend you try fostering a dog. It gets them out of a bad situation and into a stable environment. In my experience, when you adopt or foster a dog, they turn out to be great-full and loving.
Sure, There's nothing like a puppy and raising your own. But, there is seldom house training issues, or they have already gone through the chewing stage. The may know some commands and be well behaved on leash. So Fostering and adopting do have some benefits. But to me the biggest joy is seeing them playing and happy.
People say life is short, But in most cases dogs lives are very short. Help a dog out of a shelter and feel really good about yourself for helping save a dog and making another life better!.
Congratulations on your new addition Frank, and thanks for sharing the story. It is wonderful you've been able to give Isabella a happy loving, permanent home to call her own.
