From Puppies to Dogs

Doesn't time pass quickly? It is little over a year since we got Kyle and a year next month since we got Kerri. Both of them were 8 weeks old when they came to us. Kyle was a chunky little chap and he never seemed to want to sleep. We were up and down the back steps to the garden about every half hour trying to toilet train him. At the time you think you will never get through it. It seems to go on forever. We just got him toilet trained and we got Kerri and had to start all over again. Luckily it was in the summer time. I don't think I would relish going through it in the winter.

Kyle and Kerri are Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Both are Tricolours. Kyle is a little menace. He likes to look inside your pockets to see if there is anything interesting. If he finds something, he is off like a shot with his treasure. He has one problem and that is chasing cars. We are working on this at the moment but it means that he is kept mostly on the leash when we take him out walking. It is a pity because he loves nothing more than running. We do take him to the park where there are no cars around and he gets off his leash there and runs like the wind. We need to make sure they are not cutting the grass first though - he would be trying to run with the grass cutting machine.

Kerri is a cuddly little thing. When she came to us at 8 weeks she was really tiny. She is a really friendly dog with people and other dogs. She likes nothing more than being petted. She is very good off the leash. Her recall is very good. One thing with Kerri though is that she loves dirt. She digs up the garden and if we take her for a walk and there is any mud or puddles around to be sure she will be in them. She loves when we go to the park and she can run with Kyle. They are like partners in crime.

We did not plan on having two dogs so close in age. We had Kyle and I was browsing the internet one day and I came across an advert for Cavalier King Charles puppies and I could not believe it was in our town. This seemed like too good a chance to miss. I am glad now that we have the two of them near the same age. They play well together and their energy levels are on a par. I am so glad we had them from puppies to dogs.
