How to Make Raw Dog Food 2

I wanted to know how to make raw dog food, so I did some research and here's what I found.

Raw food has many health benefits for your dog. There have been scientific studies that show that dogs on raw diets have a substantially lower instance of Cancer, Diabetes and auto immune diseases. They tend to live longer, healthier, more energetic lives. The raw food diet mimics the diet that wild dogs and wolves eat in their natural habitat.

The ingredients of the raw food diet are raw meaty bones, raw meat, vegetables, and fruit with a small amount of Offal thrown in. (Offal by the way, consists of organs such as Hearts, Livers, Kidneys etc.)

You can also add different types of oil to mix the ingredients as well as supplements such as Cod liver oil, vitamin C and Vitamin E. Some people also add kelp and seaweed as additional supplements.

Grains are not usually included n the the raw food diet. Dogs do not take to grains very well. However raw oats can help a dog digest raw meat. Some people will also add some diced whole wheat bread as filler to kind of hold the mix together.

The percentage of ingredients should add up like this:

  • Raw Meat and Meaty Bones = 60 - 75%
  • Fruits and Vegetables = 25 - 40%
  • Offal, Dairy and supplements = 10 - 20%

The idea of a raw food diet is to give your dog a chemical free, nutritionally balanced, natural diet that will provide him the nutrients he needs through out his life.

Raw meaty bones contain many vitamins and minerals that your dog can't get anywhere else, such as large amounts of Calcium. About two thirds of a bones composition is Calcium phosphate. This is a mineral that is especially needed by growing puppies. A lack of Calcium can result in stunted growth for younger dogs and increased risk of fracture in older dogs. Raw bones also include fatty acids as well as Vitamin D. These are an essential nutrients for all dogs.

Here is a sample raw food recipe:

Ingredients:

3 cups Raw Oats 3 pounds Raw Turkey 1/4 cup Vegetable or Olive oil 3 cups leafy lettuce, Broccoli, Celery combined 4 tblsp Bone meal

Preparation:

Chop the Turkey and Vegetables into bite sized chunks. mix in large bowl with Oats, oil and Bone Meal. Serve Raw!

That's how simple it is. Now I know how to make raw dog food. I was shocked at how easy it was to shop for and prepare. Once in the morning and once in the evening and my dog is very happy.

There is lots of info on the web about how to make raw dog food. Check it out and give it a try. Your dog will thank you for it.
