They are a roundworm that makes their way through the blood from host to host. They can mostly be transferred by mosquitoes that go around biting other dogs. These insects can live in adult dogs for many years In dogs the right ventricle of the heart.

Now, let's look at the Symptoms of Heart worm in Dogs

Most Vets will tell you that the most common signs of dogs heart worm infection will be the following:

*Your dog losing weight

* Your dog coughing possibly more after playing and exercise

*Your dog not wanting to play or exercise

*Your dog having periods of heavy breathing

It could be very likely that noticing your dogs Heart worm symptoms might be undetectable. If your dog is older could also cause even more difficulty noticing signs like fatigue if they are normally slow moving about.

If your dog is mostly active, they could show signs of coughing, getting exhausted quickly or after playing their just dog tired.

There have been studies that show that heart worms could cause such damage to your dog by causing seizures, lameness, and even blindness so Take this information seriously Please.

Let's talk about Heart worm Diagnosis of your dog:

Having your dog tested at least twice annually for heart worm will include a simple blood test that doesn't cost very much. The idea would be to have earlier detection of the chance of your dog getting heartworms so they can get the treatment needed as soon as possible.

There are different stages that your dog can suffer from heart worms. They go from stage 1 through 5 when it comes to being based on the severity of the infection that your dog might have.

Of course the earlier the detection, the better it will be able to treat your dog of this illness.

Your dog could test negative which could just determine that there is a low worm population in your dog.

If your dog test positive, it is very likely that your Vet will suggest doing a heart x-ray which will allow him to see how much of the worm population that shows up in the heart.

The process of treating heart worms is not short by no means and the first thing that the Vet will want to determine is if your dog is or could be strong enough to handle this type of treatment.

This type of treatment could normally takes months to cure, but If your anything like me, you will feel that your dog is worth it Right?

If they are not, then you will have to decide if it will be better to have your dog put down to save them that kind of misery.

After this type of treatment your dog will be required to rest for a while, normally for a couple of months.

This is to make sure that the worms that died will not enter your dogs lungs and cause even more damage.

If this were to happen, then there will be a need for surgery to be performed, and this is not always the best way to go, but to save your dogs health, what choice will you have.

So pay attention to your dogs actions when it comes to recognizing these heart worms symptoms in your dog.

Remember to have your dog checked a couple of time yearly to help ensure that your four legged family member will be around for for you as long as possible.
