Interactive Dog Toys: Where To Get Them, Good Ways To Use Them

In this article we will be answering questions such as; What Is an Interactive Dog Toy? Where can I find Interactive Dog Toys? Recommended Interactive Toys for beginner dogs and advanced dogs, Good uses for Interactive dog toys, Easy ways to fill them, and time saving tips! We hope you enjoy this article and find it helpful.

What Is an Interactive Dog Toy?

Interactive dog toys come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, textures, and durability. An Interactive toy is one you can fill with dog treats, kibble, or food of some type. When given to your dog, it will keep them busy anywhere from 15 minutes to a few hours. Interactive dog toys are very beneficial to your dog in many ways. These toys help mentally exercise your dog, keep them out of trouble, helps clean their teeth, and helps tire them out.

Where Can You Find Interactive Dog Toys?

With the growing rate of Interactive Dog Toys, you can find them just about anywhere. Pet supplie stores such as Petsmart or Petco is a good start. You can check at a local pet store, malls, target, walmart, and anywhere that sells pet supplies. The greatest source I've found is online. Online you will find plenty of these toys to choose from.

What are some Good Interactive Toys To Start Dogs Out On?

If you have a dog that has never been given an interactive dog toy, then I recommend starting them out on some easier interactive toys. Interactive Dog Toys vary greatly in their difficulty levels, so you want to pick ones that will be right for your dog. Let's go over a few that will be good to start with.

  • Kongs- Found just about anywhere, Kong is one of the first companies to come out with an Interactive Dog Toy. They have an Interesting shape to them with a wide opening at one end. You can start your dog out by putting some kibble in the toy, let you dog watch and sniff the toy. Put the toy down and see if your dog starts trying to get the kibble out. If they don't right away, you can show them again that there is food in there and try smearing a bit of peanut butter just inside. This usually gets the dog started. Once they learn their's food inside, they usually take care of the rest!
  • Tricky Treat Ball- Not quite as popular as they once were and mostly found online. This is an orange ball with a nice sized whole in the middle of it. Easy to fill! Kibble easily falls out when rolled around, key to getting dogs used to the idea of food in a ball. At first, you might have to place kibble around the ball. This ball is not smooth, so it makes placing kibble around the ball easy.
  • Omega Paw Tricky Ball- This ball has a nice wide opening and makes an excellent first interactive toy for dogs. Kibble easily comes out of the opening when rolled around.

Once your dog gets the hang of getting food out of toys, you can start buying them more difficult ones. The toys above will only occupy your dog for a short amount of time, though if you get the kong then there are numerous things you can do with them! Kongs you can also fill with peanut butter or even find kong recipes online. Make it even harder for your dog by freezing your kong before giving it to them.

What are some good Interactive Dog Toys To buy?

I always recommend the Kongs as there are so many good uses for them and they are very durable. Other than those, Starmark has some excellent Interactive Dog Toys that are very durable. Premier Busy Buddy offers some nice Interactive toys as well, I wouldn't say they are as durable as the kongs or Starmark toys though. Any of the products by these companies are a good choice. It's good to have at least three to six different Interactive Toys around. I recommend this for a few reasons.

  • Your dog won't get tired of the same toy
  • It's great to divide up portions of your dog's food and offer your dog two - three toys at a time.
  • You can alternate and switch up toys given to your dog on different days.

What are some good uses for Interactive Dog Toys?

These toys come in handy, in so many different ways. You can give these to your dog while your not home. Hide them through out your house or yard to keep your dog busy even longer. Give one to your dog while they are in their crate to keep them busy for a bit. Great for expens, or in the car. Keep your dog busy while your busy doing other things and need them out of the way. If your dog is afraid of loud noises such as fireworks, let them induldge in a nice filled kong to keep their mind off the loud noises. There are several uses for these toys as you can see. Use your imagination!

Any tips for filling up these Interactive Dog Toys?

Some of these toys can be tricky to get the food in, while others are really easy! The best thing I've found is making a homemade funnel. I use a water or soda bottle and cut the end off. Then you just put the opening (where you drink from) into the opening of the toy, then start adding the food into the other end! It's easiest if you keep it tilted a bit and add the food slowly. Or you can add it all at once, cover the end with your hand and give it a good shake. Saves a lot of time!

I hope I was able to give you a better understanding of Interactive Dog Toys. Hopefully you will now be able to get your dog started on Interactive Toys and have a lot of ideas on ways to use them. One last tip before I go, fill up all of your toys at once, then save them for later. If you have kongs, fill them and freeze them. Just pull them out as you need them. Another great time savor!
