Natural Remedies For Fleas On Dogs

We are going to look at 4 natural remedies for fleas on dogs. There are 4 steps that you need to take to kill fleas, all of these steps can be done effectively with natural remedies for fleas on dogs.

Natural Bathing Remedies For Fleas On Dogs

To start your natural flea removal you'll need to have a natural flea shampoo. You could make your own or you can purchase one. I recommend De Flea or Natural Chemistry shampoos if you choose to purchase one. These store bought dog flea shampoos are chemical free and do not have Pyrethrins or Permethrins. These are the common flea killing chemicals that are found in flea products that are not chemical free.

If your dogs skin appears to be irritated with hot spots, inflammation on the skin or just raw from chewing due to the fleas, you may want to consider using an oatmeal based natural flea shampoo. The oatmeal helps to soothe severely irritated skin, while the flea killing ingredients continue to work.

Warm Water A Natural Remedy For Fleas On Dog

Yes, regular warm water will kill the fleas! Fill a tub with enough water that your dog can be submerged in the water, allowing their head to stick out. If you have a large dog fill the tub with is much water as you can. Next completely drench your dog with the water, this includes the head of your dog.

Take your natural flea shampoo and put a thick line of it, starting behind the ears of your dog, straight down to your dogs tail. Massage the shampoo right down to the skin, make sure that you are getting the entire body of your dog, including the belly, tail, neck and legs.

Continue massaging the shampoo, making a very thick lather, into your dogs skin for about 10 minutes. You are suffocating and killing the fleas. If the water is turning red, this is just the flea droppings, they turn red when mixed with water because it's actually blood that they have eaten.

Now you can start rinsing your dogs flea shampoo off of their coat. You will probably start seeing the fleas coming out around your dogs head and chest areas. They are trying to escape the water and drowning, just take a wet hand and push the fleas right back toward the water.

After you have rinsed all of the shampoo from your dogs coat, you are going to continue pouring the water over them. Continue pouring the water over your dog for about 10 minutes. You are going to see the fleas hanging on your dogs fur, they are either dead or dying, pick them off and drop them in the water. Make sure that you are pouring the water over their head as well, the fleas will be going to the highest ground and that is your dogs head.

Combing A Natural Remedy For Fleas On Dogs

After rinsing your dog with water, take them out and dry them as much as possible with a towel. You are going to need a fine tooth flea comb for the next stage of the natural flea removal on your dog. You are going to be getting any of the flea eggs, flea dirt and adult fleas off of your pet, that the bath didn't remove.

Have a bowl of water, large enough to rinse the comb off while combing your dogs coat. You will need to put some of your flea shampoo in the water as well, this will help kill the fleas and the eggs when you rinse the comb.

Starting at the back of your dogs neck, right behind the ears, you are going to make full combing strokes right down to the tail. Make sure that you are rinsing the comb after every stroke. If you see any excessive flea dirt or dead fleas on the comb when doing a particular area, do it again until the comb is clean. You are going to do this until your dogs coat has been completely combed.

Garlic Is A Natural Remedy For Fleas On Dogs

As you know, if you eat garlic it will give you bad breath, did you know that it also changes the taste of your blood? It does the same for your dog, when you give your dog a chewable tablet made of garlic and brewers yeast it will make their blood unappealing to the fleas. This is a completely natural flea remedy and dogs typically like the chewable tablets.
