This story began some 12 years ago, while my female Pekingese dog Mini was still a very young. She does not like to be left alone at home, like any other dog, but I got the impression that she was a bit extreme in this regard. She knew often to remind me and other family members, that she is an equal member and she wants to be treated in that way.
For example, if she thought that we do not give enough attention to her or if she received some scolding because she does something wrong, she would immediately showed us how she is angry. If I call her to come there is no way to do it (although I have to say that in normal circumstances she was very obedient) and she completely ignored me. I try to ingratiate and I give her some dog snacks or food which she loves to eat, but without success, she turns her head away from me, to show me how much she is hurt and to punish me. I was very quickly aware that she generally does not like to be alone from the earliest days of our relation.
I had my obligations I must go to work like everyone else or I went to the places that I could not take her with me, so I must leave her at home alone. Although in house were more members than I, sometimes it happened that she was left home totally alone.
Once I had to go in a hurry and at home was no one to stay with her. I had no time to say goodbye to her, to cuddle her and I completely run out. One thought crossed thru my head that it will not go to well, especially since I run out of the house in a hurry and without a goodbye. This time just happened due to circumstances that I and other members were absent from home very long. I think a few time on her what she does and what will be the situation when I come back home.
I can have never imagined what I find on my return. I hurriedly entered the house and found my Pekingese dog Mini with the door how jumping on me and like always shows me how much she is happy to see me. Her joy and excitement has always been a great joy to me also. I bent down and start to cuddle her, still without looking around. A few moments after, my elation was vanished when I looked around a little better…
Kitchens linoleum was completely torn, in the kitchen table chair was a big hole and pieces were lying everywhere, the bowl from which she drinks water turnover, the floor was completely wet and table sheet was on the floor completely wet and torn. It’s looking like burglars entered the house and roll over everything. I remembered a movie with Macaulay Culkin “Home Alone” I laughed a lot when I watched but this scene was not funny at all.
From that moment, I definitely realized that my Pekingese dog Mini does not long remain alone if you do not want to renovate the interior after each of my extended absence.
Cute story. I have a Bichon Frise, and he hates to be alone also. I can relate to your situation.
I think that's the case with all the dogs. They provide us with their selfless love without boundaries and their loyalty. They beautify our lives every day and in return they just want our presence and attention. I saw your Bichon Frise and I must say that is so cute and when you see this wonderful creature, you must have a smile on your face! Thanks for you comment.
It's really nice to talk with someone who is a lover and connoisseur of dogs in general.. I can only imagine how much joy you have from your dog! These things enrich the soul and bring joy in your home. Always glad to hear something like that!
Thank you Milos i feel the same as you when I can sense the heart felt caring of these four legged family members, He is my best friend, no doubt!
Yes Milos, we have a Skye Terrier and he doesn't care weather we are gone five minutes or five hours, he will be at the door very excited and ready to spread the love. Keep up the great work sharing you experiences with us, Thank you
Thanks William, I'm glad you like the article! Yes that's true, they don't like to be alone even a half hour, because Pekingese or all other dogs have in their nature to be in a pack, they simply can't be alone and they need a leader. In urban environment it's you! Generally dogs don't have a sense of time and they are very happy every time when they see us, no matter if we have been away a month or a few hours! I think that is kinda cute of them and in the same time it's the greatest joy which we can get from someone!
Great article, many dogs don't like to be left alone, in homes or even cars, most hate when the car stops at a light. They never know when your coming back whether in two minutes or two hours
