Some Common Diet Problems In Dogs You Never Knew Before

Having a dog as a pet has its own perks and privileges. They are not only loyal, but also the most lovable and faithful friends of humans. Therefore, as a pet owner you have a responsibility of taking good care if them and providing them the healthiest food possible. Often, dogs develop certain disorders due to the environment or the kind of food they eat. Such situation are common cause of health concerns as per an animal hospital Mississauga.

Your dog’s diet is an important decision that you have to undertake to keep it healthy for a long time. No matter how pricey your dog food is; there is always a chance for them getting sick due to the food they eat. Thus, it is necessary for you to know about the common diet ailments, their causes and symptoms so that you can deal with them in a better way.

Following are some common health problems dog suffer due to their diet:

1. Endocrine and metabolic diseases – These diseases take birth due to the high sugar content of the ‘commercially publicised’ dog food. Diabetes, hypoglycaemia and thyroid problems are common examples of such diseases.

2. Renal diseases – Dry kibble causes renal problems in dogs. These diseases can further lead to various types of other deadlier ailments.

3. Digestive disorders – The different kinds of additives, preservatives and toxins present in the dog food also lead to various digestive disorders. Common symptoms include diarrhoea and vomiting.

4. Constipation – With growing age, this disorder gets frequent. This can be treated by raising the fiber content of the dog’s food. Pumpkin is a great source of fiber and dogs love it too.

5. Cancer – Most artificial dog foods contain dyes, preservatives and color that can lead to this deadly disease. Chemotherapy is the only possible solution to cancer.

6. Dermatological diseases – Dogs can quickly catch up with an allergy caused by food or air- borne organisms. These allergens make the dog sneeze, sniffle or can make them scratch their paws, or even give birth to ear infections. Antihistamines prescribed by vets lead to these diseases.

7. Cataracts – Cloudiness in eyes or cataract usually occurs in dogs when it ages.

8. Diarrhoea – An abrupt change in diet can lead to diarrhoea. If your dog gets diagnosed by diarrhoea, you should take it to a vet immediately and make sure that your dog doesn’t undergo dehydration.

9. Fleas and Ticks – These parasitic creatures come into action during summer and make matters worse for your dog. When diagnosed, an anti-tick or flea treatment is necessary. Getting a parasite control service from your nearest vet clinic is a good way to avoid them.

Just like humans, dogs too are prone to food related problems. Most of the vet hospitals in Mississauga agree to the fact that obesity is the root of all problems in dogs. If ignored, it can create a lot of misery for your dog. Dogs can be easily infected by impure or artificial food and thus proper care must be taken regarding this matter. The best thing you can do is to prepare food for your dog at your home with utmost caution, just like you do for yourself. This way you can ensure that they receive the must hygienic and safe food.
