All dogs need a job to do, it gives them a sense of importance and helps stimulate their mind. Dogs with a job to do are more likely to be well behaved than a dog with out a job. Dogs love jobs, they crave them. If you don't give your dog a job to do, they will find a job themselves. If they find it themselves, it is usually something such as chewing on your shoes, digging holes in the backyard, digging up the flowers, and tearing up the couch. This is not the kind of job you want your dog to find. So come up with something for your dog to do!

Working dogs love to work! Any dog can be a working dog with the right training. It doesn't have to be a hard job, it can be something such as finding your keys, fetching your slippers, or even getting the paper in the morning. Teach your dog to help wake up the kids, pick up the laundry, throw away garbage. Yes, it's all possible to teach! Take your dog to work with you if you can and find something they can help you out with there.

There are so many things dogs can learn to do with training now days there really shouldn't be no excuse for a dog not to have a job to do. Putting dogs to work is very beneficial to them and gives them a sence of pride. Give your dog a job and watch how they act afterwords. Do they walk around with their head up? A new prance in their step? Usually dogs are very proud when you allow them to help you out. Makes them feel needed, and yes dogs need to feel needed too.

One of the obvious jobs for a dog would be a Service Dog. There are several different types of Service Dogs, such as Hearing Alert Dogs, Guide Dogs for the blind, Mobility dogs, Seizure Alert dogs, Medical Alert dogs, and Autism Service Dog. In each one the dog has different types of jobs to do.

Other jobs include, dogs working in the police force. Weather they are searching for drugs, or helping bring people in, these dogs love their job! There are even dogs hired at airports to keep the runway free from birds! How about Herding dogs, dogs who help people bring in their sheep and cattle. There are also the hunting working dogs, who help the hunters find the birds and retrieve the birds for the hunter. All of these are jobs for dogs.

Once again, you don't need to do any of these to give your dog a job to do, jobs can be easy things around the house. Find things your dog could do, train them to do it, then give them the job! Make your dog useful around the house, it will benefit you and the dog. Remember, any dog can be a working dog, no matter how big or small they are!
