The Best Indoor Dog Enclosures

It happened the other day. I was sitting down and watching a show when I heard the sliding of four little paws followed by a couple of steady bumps. Yes, it was a typical day in my household and once again my two dogs had found a way to surpass the stair gate. Apparently they didn’t get the memo that the upstairs floor had just been waxed and it was not the best idea to play around an open staircase. Thankfully a trip to the vet assured that everything was fine and I set off to find a sturdier gate to keep my playful mutts off the stairs. Having owned dogs my whole life, I have had my fair of dog enclosures. Especially owning indoor pets, I have had quite the experience with many varieties of these wonderful little keep outs. Below are some enclosures I have found to be most helpful in keeping my girls safe and out of certain areas.

The Indoor Gate

This enclosure is probably my favorite one and for very good reason. Portable, easy to install and having the ability to be used in almost any doorway make the indoor gate a great tool for keeping your dogs in or out of an area. I normally opt for the expandable, wooden frame gate as I go through these pretty frequently; however there are nice versions out there that are typically taller in height, have more durability and can even be equipped with a door so you can easily get out while keeping Fido in. Versatility is what this thing is all about and, like many pet owners, I find this a great option.

The Indoor Pen

I have a smaller dog and I usually reserve the pen for her. I find these enclosures great when it comes to wanting to set up an area for your furry friend to play while still interacting and keeping a close watch on them. Convenience definitely is an appeal here as the pen is easy to transport and only takes minutes to put up. All in all a great option for setting up a quaint little area for your pet to enjoy themselves and still have some leg room.

The Indoor Crate

Argued as the best choice for training puppies and disciplining dogs, the indoor crate almost comes standard as a buy with your pooch. No discrimination here as these enclosures come in a variety of sizes to accommodate your Dachshund or your Mastiff. Used by many pet owners to contain an unruly pet during the empty house hours, personally I find that long crate times should be coupled with plenty of exercise upon the return home. These enclosures are also great for providing your canine with a comfortable and personal space while keeping them secure and safe.

As more and more people become pet owners, the market for indoor dog enclosures will continue to expand and provide us with even more options than the ones I listed above. The way I see it, the more options the better. My two dogs are like family and I am always on the lookout for any enclosure that is going to keep them out of harm’s way and provide them with a sense of stability. Just remember that when thinking of containment solutions, it is best to take into account your pet’s demeanor, size, energy level and time spent in the contained area. Finding the perfect enclosure should be a treat for both you and your four legged friend.
