This job was not even close to typical, but quite an interesting experience. When I got the call from Deer Park about a carpet cleaning job, I knew right from the beginning something felt off about it. The woman explained the situation. She had some acquaintances coming over and needed her carpets cleaned as quickly as possible. She had explained that her carpets were a bit unusual, I hear that a lot now that I think about it. I was confident and told her not to worry because I have seen it all.
Not. I am far too young to have "seen it all". Lesson learned. I was currently on a job, so I told her as soon as I was done here I would come there immediately to inspect her carpets. The woman was pleased to hear it and hung up. As I packed up my gear to head towards Deer Park, I thought about the call that took place. I could hear multiple dogs in the back ground barking. No big deal, I just hope she puts them up I thought to myself.
I'm always trying to educate people on the importance of asking questions. This time I was the one who didn't ask nearly enough enough questions. It comforts me to know exactly what kind of carpet cleaning job I'm getting myself into. Heading to a carpet cleaning job before verifying where you are going, and who the client is can be similar to driving while blind folded. It can be very dangerous to say the least if you are not careful.
When I arrived to the clients location, nothing seemed unusual. It was a typical Deer Park, TX house. Most carpet cleaning jobs I've done in Deer Park were usually very big and luxurious homes, with luxurious carpets that needed cleaning.
I walked up to the clients door with a big smile and eagerness to get started on the job. When I knocked on the door, a few Huskies came up to the window next to it and stared excitedly.
I greeted her and was invited in to take a look at the job. When I walked in, you guessed it, I was shocked. The carpets that needed cleaning were covered in fur. Every square inch was covered in about a half inch of dog fur. The client owned three Huskies. I own a Husky myself, and if I go without vacuuming for at least 3 days, my house is covered in fur. They shed rapidly, so you can imagine how much 3 Huskies could accumulate that much hair over a period of time.
I told the client I'll need to pre-vacuum first and got started. It took at least two hours to clear the fur. The more fur I removed, the more I could see the clients carpets. I've only been carpet cleaning in Deer Park professionally for about a year now, so I was bound to run into something like this sooner or later. The carpets were made up of several different slabs of carpets. Stapled down and together by 2 inch staples. The look of it reminded me of something from a horror movie. I just had to ask what had happened.
The client laughed and said she had rescued her three Huskies when they were just puppies. The Huskies were about a years old now. When she went to work during the day, they would rip and tear at the carpet. (The dogs had plenty of toys laying around.) Every time it happened, she would simply staple the carpets back down. The reason they were not replaced yet is because she wanted to wait until the Huskies got out of their chewing stage. Which for Huskies, would be at least two years old. The reason for the amount of fur was due to her being out of town for a week due to work. She had a neighbor feed and walk the dogs daily while she was away, but not vacuum.
I finished the unusual Deer Park carpet cleaning job in a timely manner. The whole carpet cleaning job was quite an experience I would not soon forget. Although it was quite strange, the job was still more pleasant the some jobs I have done in the past. What does that tell you about carpet cleaning?
If had I asked the right questions, would I have still taken the job? Absolutely. The more I make a mistake the more I learn. What if this job had been something worse? That is what I have learned from carpet cleaning Deer Park TX, or anywhere for that matter. Not asking the right questions about a carpet cleaning job can put you at risk.
Some carpet cleaners have reportedly been lured to locations and then had their equipment robbed because they failed to look up the location first or ask the right questions. A mistake like this could end up leaving you bankrupt, or out of business. It is indeed, a costly mistake.
