Before I register for domain name , I first decide if it is for branding purposes or for online traffic. For offline organizations that want to brand their web presence, this is fairly simple and the next step is just to check for availability of the domain. But if am looking for online traffic, I will look for a domain that is a search term on search engines otherwise known as a keyword. This will give me a head start over the competition as search engines favor domain names that are search terms as they assume I own the domain.
I will start a keyword research for the my market segment and it is very important that I use a reliable keyword tool that will give me accurate data. The ideal search term should have high monthly search traffic preferably over 6000 a month or 200 daily searches and most important, low competition of not more than 400 pages online using the exact keyword.
So, it is critical to use an accurate keyword tool as the success of my website or blog will depend on the accuracy search data. Imagine buying a domain name and marketing the site only to have no traffic due to the usage of wrong keyword.
To register a domain name, the next step is to check for the availability of the domain name and its extension like .com , .org. If available, the next step is to put down registration details . For this, one needs to put down
1. The owner of the domain name . This will be the legal owner of the domain name.
2.The administrator of the domain and its properties.
3.The person dealing with technical details of the domain name.
4.The billing details for the domain
The next step may seem technical but is quite simple. Setting of name servers. I Copy and paste domain name servers details from the host onto the registration form . There are normally two essential domain servers, a primary and a secondary one. However, one can bypass this step and edit it later.
To register for a domain name, I also need to indicate the duration of the domain normally ranging from 1 year to 5 years. I am now ready to proceed to the payment checkout page to submit my payment. Once my payment is confirmed with a receipt, am now the proud owner of a domain name. To register for a domain name is as easy as that.
