Therapy For Mental Health After IPV

This horrific brain injury called post traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, has become my constant companion in the wake of the abuse I have suffered for 44 years at the hands of my husband. O have been unable to get a handle on it...Prozac has helped only a little. I still face uncertainty and anxiety never knowing when it will strike again.

Intimate Partner Violence(IPV) and domestic abuse/violence are all the same thing...most of the time perpetrated by a male partner onto his female partner or spouse. It is against the law, but it is still a misdemeanor in most states. Can you say CRAZY? Why would hitting your partner carry less penalties than assaulting a perfect stranger? Do we need to get some laws changed? Yes! But the victim going through the horrific aftermath of abuse is usually rendered impotent to affect any change due to her mental and emotional health issues. Can you say UNFAIR? Therefore it is obligatory to first get well, and then, hopefully attempt to tackle the issues of legislation to protect the victims, to help us financially, and give us free programs for mental health and physical help which plagues the majority of victims.

Next week is filled with appointments for myself... I have an intake appointment at a local mental health clinic that will allow me to see a therapist once a month, but will have access to a support group of my peers who are all suffering from PTSD on a weekly basis. Then later in the week I will go see a liscensed therapist provided through my church. And on Tuesday night there are several more support groups that meet at another local church...they even serve a free dinner...which is helpful to me since I am living onSS check of $700 month...can you say poverty? When I kicked my husband out he took our money with him. Now I have to get on my own two feet very quickly, while dealing with panic attacks, PTSD and depression...all results of the abuse. Since I am old and disabled, it is a good thing I have wealthy affiliate to train me and help me start making money online.

It seems unfair, doesn't it, that a woman who has been verbally, emotionally, and physically abused would still have to suffer the mental anguish of PTSD, depression and panic attacks. Unfortunately it is the case with the majority of domestic abuse survivors, not just myself. Another unfortunate reality is how much these therapists charge...even down here in the southern USA it cost between $65-100 an hour just to get the necessary help to get back up, back on my feet. So even though I need lots of help, the lack of money could prevent me from getting the help I so desperately need. Can You say REDICULOUS?

Still, in spite of the obstacles, and the physical illness I am suffering right now, and not having a support team/friends to give me moral support, I will have to carry through to achieve health. I have a four year old granddaughter that I have to care for 50% of the time. I will encourage anyone else suffering from Panic disorder, Post traumatic stress disorder, depression, and abuse, do not waste anymore time. The abuse only gets worse over time, rarely the abuse gets professional help, rarely do they admit to the abuse, so run dont walk to a safe place. And if you are in a safe place, my next words of encouragement are please go to see your doctor. Let him give you a referral to a therapist, or find one yourself. Also, know this, the first one or two might not be a "good match".dont give up...you and I are worth it! Yes, you are!
