Have You Ever Thought - Is Weed Addictive?

For those of you who smoke marijuana, have you ever sat and thought to yourself, is weed addictive? It's something a lot of younger people tend to think about after having used it for quite some time.

When they find themselves having cravings to smoke a bong, or roll a joint.

Still though, it's not something that is physically addictive. None of the research studies, done by scientists over the years, to test the different strains of cannabis have ever concluded that there's any physically addictive chemicals within marijuana.

Yet when you look at the stats from the marijuana rehab centers, there stats will tell you a completely different story.

They don't indicate the whole truth though. The problem with rehab centers are that data is extremely unreliable for statistics on how many people are being treated for a weed addiction.

Of the thousands of admissions each year, of people going into drug rehabilitation facilities, to get over the feeling of being addicted to weed, there's only about 11% of the total people who admit themselves for treatment. So not as many as the statistic reports would have you believe.

The majority of the patients are often admitted through the court systems. Obviously with the use of cannabis being illegal and the over crowding problem in prisons, the alternative is for someone to be instructed to go through a rehab program to get themselves off of drugs.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. The times when it doesn't, it's often down to the individual not really wanting to quit.

With any sort of habit/addiction, you need to make a decision that you are committing to stopping something. If you don't truly want to stop smoking weed, or even smoking in general for that matter, it's going to be extremely hard to give up.

The thing with marijuana and the addictive nature it can have on people is more related to their personalities.

You might have heard the saying of being "easily led astray". Similar to having an addictive personality, where you don't have too strong a sense of willpower. People can form a psychological reliance on marijuana, rather than an actual physical addiction.

It's the process of how you think about marijuana and its use that gets treated through improving your self esteem, boosting your willpower and applying techniques into your life which help you to resist the temptation of starting using it again.

So in respect of whether weed is addictive or not, it has the capability of being habit forming, however in terms of a physical addiction, it's not possible. You can stop smoking weed anytime and the only thing you'll experience is a few days of irritability. Perhaps some headaches in the early days but that's going to be to do with the stress of breaking a habit you might have had for years. The physical withdrawal symptoms are fairly mild and you won't be in harms way from going cold turkey as you might be with heavier substances.
