There is no doubt that drug and alcohol addiction can not only decimate a person’s inner being, but can also tear apart families and even cause a rift in the moral fabric of society itself at large. Substance abuse treatment can take on many forms. If left unchecked and untreated, substance abuse can destroy entire societies and neighborhoods. Therefore, it is imperative that something must be done about it. The government has outlawed the use of certain drugs and has established certain civil penalties for its possession and its abuse. But the question that needs to be asked is whether or not the punishment truly fits the crime.
Should a person who is found guilty of substance abuse be locked away in prison or have his or her privileges (such as driving, voting, etc.) be revoked? Should that person be condemned to a life of imprisonment or solitary confinement? Or should a substance abuser be treated? From a religious standpoint, if we are to emulate the prophets and put into practice the commandments of God in our lives, then we need to approach the subject of substance abuse treatment in such a way that the punishment fits the crime. God is merciful and therefore wants us to practice mercy in our lives toward our fellow man. Therefore, it behooves us that rather than locking up a substance abuser in prison, we should try to help that person overcome his problem and get his or her life rehabilitated and back on track toward a productive life that is dedicated toward the betterment of his or her family and society. Everybody deserves a second chance.
In fact, it could even be argued that many people throughout all of human history have become better, more productive human beings, and better devotees to God’s cause after hitting rock bottom. If it weren’t for the humanitarian cause of substance abuse treatment rehabilitation efforts, where would these people have ended up? What would have become of them? What if there were no substance about treatment centers that addicts could turn to for help?
Many experts theorize that addiction is something beyond a person’s control. The addict has lost all faculty of free will to suppress his or her fixation on the object being desired. Of course, the attitudes, habits, actions, and behaviors leading up to this indulgence being solidified into an addiction were all within the individual’s control. But once you have gone beyond the brink - beyond that proverbial point of no return, outside intervention from a third party sometimes becomes necessary, whether it is a friend, a family member, or a professional substance abuse treatment counselor.
A recovery home can provide recovering substance abusers with a safe, discreet, and healthy venue through which they can undergo rehabilitation. The staff at the recovery home treat all of their patients with the utmost care and respect. The ultimate goal is to help the addict overcome his addiction at all levels - physical, mental, and spiritual, and help him get back on his feet and return back to society as a reformed human being.

Your right, Jesus would have shown mercy, He also would have said a thing or two about the judgmental attitude of society! He who is without sin, cast the first stone, I think you get the point? You see, the same judge that sends some kid to prison for drug possession was committing adultry the night before, but because nobody saw him its okay! By the way, no body gets clean until they want to!! That my man, is the secret, they can tell yu anything they want, but until in their hearts, they make a real choice to turn their miserable lives, and everything in them, over to God, and dump that ton of sin, guilt, and shame that their lugging around, they will never ever get and stay CLEAN!!
