Leapster Explorer Review

I purchased the Leapster Explorer last year Christmas for my twins. At first I was a bit sceptical about buying this toy as it can be a bit expensive buying two electronic toys for two children that might not like it or even play with it.

Well let me tell you that I was pleasantly surprised. They both loved it and were both very excited to start playing it. The leapster explorer comes with a few pre-installed games and books, including Pet Pals which is so adorable. With Pet Pals the children are able to create a pet, name it and then take care of it by feeding, bathing and playing with it. The leapster explorer has a touch screen and a stylus which makes the interactive play really fun. The children liked the idea of flicking the pages to turn it and tapping the screen when playing games. My twins were only 4 years old when they got their leapster explorer and they played on it with ease.

Each month I buy a new game and a book or video to add to the library. Downloading the games from Leapfrogs website onto my home computer is really simple. Thankfully I can buy 1 game and add it to both leapster toys which saves me some money and time. Leapfrog allows you to add games, video and ebooks to three leapfrog toys, which includes the leapfrog leappad and Leapster Explorer GS.

Another thing I like about the leapster explorer is that it is light and easy to carry around. So, on the go learning and play is possible. Its a great idea to take the leapster along on a road trip or if you need your little ones to keep busy while you are busy with your own things for a while. The games for the leapster explorer are really cool too. I have bought a few games already and every time I download them onto the leapsters, I always wonder to myself if the twins will understand how to play the game. And every time, they surprise me by doing exactly what is expected. I realised then that each game is designed to develop as the child develops and progresses through the games. My 4 year old daughter was playing word search when she wasn't even at school yet and my son was building his confidence with problem solving tasks before he was 4 and a half. They both have really impressed me. I still have more games to buy, but 1 game a month is all I can afford right now and it gives the twins chance to play and learn before moving onto something new. The story books are very colourful and the voice reading the story is very clear. The twins love it when you touch on a character in the book and there are sound effects that follow, it really keeps them so engaged in the story. Its really good.

I highly recommend the leapster explorer to anyone looking for a gift idea for a young child aged between 3 and 7. The games are very interactive, the stories are engaging and the videos are exciting. My twins love their leapster explorers and I actually enjoying choosing a new game and book each month to add to their collection.
