Tinnitus entails the annoying sensation of hearing sound when no external sound is present. The symptoms of tinnitus include these types of phantom ringing in ears:
- Call
- Zoom
- Roaring
- By clicking on the
- Whistle
Phantom noise can vary in tone in a roar low in a high Squeak and I heard in one or both ears. In some cases, sound can be so strong can interfere with your ability to concentrate or to hear audio. Tinnitus can be present all the time, or may come and go.
There are two types of tinnitus.

- If you have tinnitus that bothers you, talk to your doctor.
- Make an appointment to see your doctor if:
- Develop tinnitus after an upper respiratory infection such as a cold, and your tinnitus does not improve within a week.
- Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if:
- You have tinnitus that suddenly appears or no cause apparent.
- The hearing loss or dizziness with tinnitus.
Common Causes of Tinnitus
In many people, tinnitus is caused by one of these conditions:
Age-related hearing loss: For many people, hearing deteriorates with age, usually begins around the age of 60. Hearing loss can cause tinnitus. The medical term for this type of hearing loss is presbycusis.
Exposure to loud noises: Loud noises, such as heavy machinery, chain saws and guns are common sources of noise-related hearing loss. Portable music devices such as MP3 or iPod, can also cause hearing loss related to noise where he played hard for long periods of time. Tinnitus caused by exposure in the short term, such as attending a loud concert, usually disappears; prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause permanent damage.
