What Causes Ear Ringing?

Hello? Hello? Did you just get back from a concert? Are you getting up there in years and it isn’t going away like it used to? Will the bell ringers in your ears not go away this time? You may have Tinnitus. Tinnitus is the medical term for this condition. Before you read further, there is no known cure for this condition besides time. However, knowing a little bit more about this condition may ease your anxiety levels.

Are the bell ringers in beat with your heart? Or is it a constant long ring? These are the two forms of tinnitus, Pulsatile or Non-pulsatile. The pulsating is actually your blood flow affecting your hearing. Non-pulsating has to do with other items that may have harmed a portion of your ear. However, the ear is able to bounce back usually. If the bell ringers do not move on after a couple of days, you may want to look further into your condition.

When dealing with something that is not normal for you, you should think back to what happened before the condition started. What causes ear ringing? What were you doing? Did you have something hit your ear? Was there a loud noise? Have you been using Q-tips to remove wax when you doctor told you NOT to? Were you flying in a plane? Are you getting older? Things do NOT just happen for no reason. However, the reason may NOT be visible to you. It may be something that has happened internally.

There are a number of reasons that have caused this ringing of the ears. The most common are old age or constant loud noises. As we get older, certain parts of the body do NOT work as well as they used to work. In addition, you may work in a profession that has a lot of loud noises such as construction, shipyards, or a manufacturing plant. The more stress we put our ears through, the longer it will take for them to bounce back. If it is one of the below issues though, a medical professional may be the only solution.

Some other causes of tinnitus are as follows:

1. Earwax buildup – Clean your ears out with water flush. This can be done while in the shower.

2. Different medications – Did you start a new medication? This may be a side effect.

3. Drinking too much alcohol – Don’t drink so much.

4. Ear infection – OTC ear drops are available at most drugstores.

5. Dental issues – Did you just get some work completed?

6. Direct injury to the ear – Ouch!

7. Quick change in air pressure – Are you on a plane or scuba diving?

8. Severe weight loss – Your body is adjusting. Give it time.

9. Too much exercise – Your body is adjusting. Give it time.

10. Blood flow issues – Seek medical help.

11. Nerve disorders – Seek medical help.

12. Thyroid issues – Seek medical help.

As you can see, most of the time you will not need any medical treatment for tinnitus. A change in whatever you did to create the condition that caused the ringing in the first place will correct the condition. What causes ear ringing? However, if you find that after a couple of days, things do NOT fix themselves, you may want to seek medical assistance. There is no actual cure but the doctor may be able to treat another condition that is causing the problem. You may be able to train your ears to accept recurring conditions. I hope the bell ringers have moved on to another location.

Street Talk

I actually have this happening at times, at 45. One thing I have found, is that when I am listening to my ham radio, doing morse code, i can adjust the tone of the incoming signal against the ringing in my ears, to hear the signal better. I can hear a signal in the static, that others cant hear, because of the two different tones creating a third tone, that I can hear. Use your flaws to your benefit.....lol
