Organic Farming Grants: How To Find Them And What They Are Used For

Becoming a farmer of any kind requires a lot of money. Becoming an organic farmer, as can be imagined can cost even more for a number of reasons. There are some various government subsidies that can be used to offset some of this expense, including the possibility of using organic farming grants. There are a number of different grants which have the added advantage over a loan in that they do not need to be repaid at any time. The most common categories of organic farming grants include: research, educational, grants for certain locations, for business and for certain groups.

As a farmer, if you are willing to set aside a part of your farm land for research, you may be eligible for an organic farming grant. There are a number of different things that can be researched on the farm, including different types of materials that can be used to effectively control weeds and pests.

Other theories can be investigated by using careful and controlled research as well. By allowing your farm’s lands to be used for research, you can improve the organic farming world including better ways to get the crops from the ground to the consumer.

In addition to setting aside some of your farm land for research, you can qualify for agricultural grants by allowing your farm to be used for education. There are a number of requirements that you will have to meet to get these types of grants which might include the need to hold seminars on or off of your farm or to have training with new farmers.

Grants can be also be available for farms located in certain areas, especially those that are deemed to be under developed. Some grants can also be available to subsidize new business. Organic farming is encouraged as a new business especially in areas where there are issues with the local eco system.

There are grants that you can qualify for just because you are a member of a certain group. These groups are encouraged to start an organic farm and can include women, veterans and farmers whose crops have become less profitable for them.

There are a number of places to find these grants, including starting with the local county extension. Even if the do not have grants available, they will be able to tell you where you can search next. There are also a number that are listed online. Each listing will tell you how to apply for the grant and what your next steps might be. Some organic farming grants will be restricted to certain types of crops or other activities, so always read the entire listing before you spend the time to apply.
