eCommerce is a rapidly growing industry, with growth of 10% year on year. This dramatic increase in the industry has made acquiring eCommerce traffic more difficult than ever before. However there are still some tactics that work extremely well.

For example, in previous years SEO has been more powerful than ever before in the eCommerce realm if done right. However the trouble is that hte majority of SEO companies don’t understand eCommerce and the difference between that and standard SEO.

So to help you grow your eCommerce business better, below I’ve included 3 of my best tips to grow your eCommerce rankings in 2016.

1. Focus on Natural links

I don’t think there is an SEO article anywhere on the internet that doesn’t stress this point, and for good reason. If you are building your eCommerce business to provide you with stable cash flow long term, then it's essential that your SEO is completely safe. This is why you should make sure that all of your links are 100% natural.

There are numerous shady techniques out there such as spam and robotic link building tactics which simply don’t work. Search engines like Google have spent millions of dollars to ensure that these tactics don’t effect their results. In fact - By employing these low quality tactics you can actually get your website banned from Google all together.

Instead focus on high quality links from real sites. These could be from blogs, news sites or industry publications.

2. Build category level links

Most SEO companies point all of your links to your home page - And for standard SEO that works really well. However in eCommerce because there are so many keywords that you need to rank for you’re better off pointing the links to the deep pages.

For example if you are a womens fashion boutique, send links to your dresses, pants, shirts and skirts pages if you want to rank for these keywords.

3. Schematic Mark Up

There has been a lot of talk recently about Schema and Schematic mark up, so I’d liek to help you get to the bottom of what it is and how it can help your business.

At the basic level, Schematic Markup (or Schema) is a series of tags that you add to your web page to help Google & blind users to understand things better. For example you can add the ‘reviews’ tag to your review code, and the ‘price’ tag to your price code.

So what is the benefit of this? Well to get one thing clear it does not help your rankings - At all. However it does help boost your overall traffic.

You see, Google pulls the data that you ‘mark up’ such as your product reviews, quantity available, price and shipping time through to your search result. This extra data has been proven to increase your click through rates, thus bringing you a greater amount of traffic. With eCommerce SEO this on its own has often increased businesses sales by 3-5%.

4. Keep Social Going

For many eCommerce businesses they believe that once they start SEO they can put their Social Media on the back burner, but things couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, Social Signals although not a direct ranking factor have been proven to rank websites very rapidly.

On their own they aren’t super powerful, but when mixed with the tactics that we covered above your Social Signals will help your rankings a lot. It is also important that you share the links to your deep pages such as products and categories on social media as well to prove that your entire website is relevant.
