Google Search Engine Rules

The latest Google search engine rules have shook the eCommerce business with many sites being trashed by Google because of non-original content, ads that compete with Google, and because visitors don't think enough of the site to stay there more than a few seconds.

These sites did not link to additional relevant information, a Google criteria. Google does not want searches to seek relevant information and then end up in some webmasters junk pile. When the searcher "digs," Google wants him to find more good information meaning relevant information.

Some operators had hundreds of sites perhaps making about $20 each month on each site. These were affiliate sites with plenty of ads in the sidebars. Having say 500 sites at $20 each month income from each site meant about $10,000 a monthly income. Some of these mini-site people are out of business at least for now.

You have probably seen the ads for systems to create hundreds of mini sites in a short time. I always ignored these ads but others didn't and made a living at it.

I was trained to create sites with meaningful content and that articles could be used to drive traffic to such sites. I was taught never to sell on such sites but to link to suppliers who would do the selling. That method still works but there is a lot of work in putting meaningful original information on sites, building mailing list, and updating the site, sites that have good interesting and good videos, and such, that keep people there.

Because of the Google search engine rules, the article sites have had a challenge. They have had to tighten up the criteria for accepting articles. Writers have become frustrated and some have given up. However, an article will not receive a good rating by Google if it a rehash or plain ordinary junk.

Links from articles must lead to sites with more relevant content. Such followup pages may have an affiliate link to a pitch page created by the vendor.

The Google search engine rules are for the better, but they mean that marketers need to be retrained. Just putting up a bunch of junk sites will not work.

It is probably best to work your niche and your mailing lists and continually improve the content on your site. You need to become that real expert that searchers are looking for.

You will want to build a site where people will come and stick around for a while.
