Seniors And This Economy

I believe most of todays seniors are wondering. What happened to the days when if you worked hard, saved/invested your money then you could have a stable, secure retirement.

Lets look at the facts of todays economy. The current administration has increased the national debt by more than the total of the previous forty one presidents. This is not conjecture, it is based on data from the current governments accounting agencies.

Gas prices have increased from approximately $1.90/gallon to $3.75/gallon under the current administration. These numbers are easily confirmed by googling current and past gas prices.

The cost of living for things we really use is skyrocketing. Groceries, electricity, heating fuel, gasoline are all up double digits in the last three years. The government produced cost of living index does not include many of the things we use everyday.

The value of our homes has dropped 20% to 30% in most areas. Five years ago my home would have sold for approximately $225,000. Today it’s worth $175,000 tops. Some economists believe it will take at least ten years for the housing market to fully recover. Well when you are in your seventies that is not very comforting because it dramatically affects your net worth.

The return on our money has fallen so far as to be almost nonexistent. The money gurus are saying we are missing out if we are not in the current market. My question is missing out on what. Profits for them for sure. Many of us are not in a position to put our money at risk so we park it in cash, take a job if we can find one and hope for the best.

I am one of the fortunate ones that has a good paying job. The problem is that it is a job that I may not be able to do physically much longer. My solution has been to explore internet marketing. I am approximately four months into it and the results are mixed. The poor results are my fault because I have been on vacation for two of those months. One thing I know. Internet marketing does work. Like anything else it takes hard work and time.

The question is. Is there anything we seniors can do to help ourselves. Well there are a lot of us and we can definitely influence the upcoming presidential election. My hope is that each of us will not be swayed by rhetoric but will take the time to look at the facts and vote accordingly. Voting is a privilege not to be taken lightly. This is one of the few countries where you can make your voice heard at the voting booth and do so without fear of reprisal.

To explore internet marketing is a good solution for the current economic problem. Staying in the comfort of our homes, working during spare time or when we want to, and having a world-wide opportunity are good combinations that will help people succeed. Great article, John and thanks for the update on US economy - I wish its recovery will be consistent (for the benefit of everybody).
