Supplement Income After Retirement

My Retirement

I enjoyed my job as a teaching assistant for twenty-two years - up until about a year before I retired. I had fallen twice during the summer before school started and found that I have scoliosis - then followed plantar fasciitis in late summer or early fall and that lasted all year. I was miserable and so ready to just stay at home. I took such heavy doses of anti- inflammatory drugs, it is believed to have decreased my kidney functions. I'm in stage 3 kidney failure now although I continue to get along okay. Must watch my diet a bit and be monitored for anemia, but I continue to Praise God for all He does for us. I really can't complain.

Interesting Statistics about Retiring

About 75% of the population have about $5,000 in their bank accounts for retirement. Something everyone hates the thought of is now coming true more and more. Nearly 50% of 65 year old people in the U.S. will depend on relatives, while around 30% will have to rely on charities to take care of them. Nearly 25% of them will continue to work as long a their little body's will allow. Unless you are a fairly wealthy person, retirement may be a bit more challenging. According to my figures, that only leaves about 5% retirement age people with the money to care for themselves in a reasonably stable fashion.

Retirement - A time for You

Many people have looked forward to retiring. Maybe you have some travel, golfing, swimming, fishing, biking, going with your church to places you never could as long as you were working, in your retirement plans. The above statistics are somewhat gloomy. However, it doesn't hurt anyone to dream, I say, "Everyone needs a dream." Even though we are retiring, or retired we absolutely must remember we are still breathing and as long as we are, we cannot stop. Let's Keep Going!!! Don't Give Up! Don't Give In! Set some Goals!

Look for Fun Gratifying Jobs

We all have talents, writing abilities, are great cooks, organizers, shoppers, good ideas - some have skills they didn't know they had, and most of all a good strong faith to know we aren't alone. If you are a God fearing person, you know, " you can do all things through Christ who strengthens us." You don't have to accept an old tiring meaningless job for retired people. Don't be afraid to ask if anyone in your circles or church group would like to join you in your efforts; together you can come up with some great jobs for retired people. Maybe having your own website where you could sell All Occasion Cards made by your group, is something that interests you. In summer my husband has a large garden which is a fun job that supplies lovely vegetables and substitute teaches which he finds very rewarding. I have an affiliate website and do a number of other things to supplement our income. There are lots of things we can do to stretch those dollars - below are just a few:

No. 1 Quibids ( I bid on Walmart gift cards, restaurant cards or gas cards, there are many things to bid on, those are just the kinds of things we're interested in.)if you don't win a bid, you can usually choose to buy them, and pay usually between 50% and 40% of value. Not really bad savings.

No.2 Then I have Groupons which you can usually get $20 worth of food for $10 or half price at nice restaurants., haircuts half price, great prices on motel rooms, clothing, etc.

No.3 Of course, there are coupon clippings.

If you are retired or retiring and have more fun ideas about how to stretch your dollars - I would love to hear from you in the comments section. God bless you!
