5 Ways In - Home Aged Care Can Benefit Your Elderly Relative

Caring for a senior loved one can be difficult. If there comes a time when your relative can no longer be alone, you may be worried about what the best option is for her care. In-Home care can be the best of both worlds, allowing your loved one to remain at home while also having the help she needs and giving you the peace of mind knowing she is cared for when you can't be there. Unsure whether this is the best choice for your family? Here are some of the reasons this type of care can help your family member.

Provide Companionship

Loneliness is a common feeling among the elderly. Having a care provider at home can make your loved one feel more connected to the world. If possible, have your loved one there while you interview potential caregivers so he feels he has some say in the matter of choosing a companion as well.

Maintain Independence

If your elderly relative can no longer take care of himself, there are some hard decisions to be made. In-Home Care can provide an alternative to a nursing home or moving in with another relative when your loved one desires to stay in her own home. Having someone there to help with basic needs and help as needed, will allow your loved one to still feel some independence.

Help With Medication and Medical Appointments

An at home care provider can help measure out medications and administer them if your loved one is unable to do so herself, or is prone to forgetting. In addition, the assistant can also take your relative to doctors’ appointments or for tests as needed.

Assist With Navigating the Home

Elderly people who use walkers or wheelchairs may have trouble getting around their own home, creating frustration as well as a safety risk. A care provider can help keep walkways clear and assist the patient with navigating around the house.

Maintain Dignity

Even if your loved one lives with you and you are home most of the time, a care provider in the home can be good for him. Certain activities, such as using the bathroom or dressing or showering might feel embarrassing to your relative if you need to help him. Having someone who isn't personally related do these things instead can help him maintain his feeling of dignity.
