Alzheimer's Disease is the most common form of dementia which develops slowly and worsens over time. The most common symptoms include memory loss and changes in one's behavior. This disease is not a normal part of aging and is the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. There may not be a cure, but there may be a way to help protect the brain cells from further damage: coconut oil treatment for Alzheimer's Disease. Please read on to learn more.
If you search the internet, you will find many positive experiences relating to people who have tried feeding coconut oil to loved ones suffering with the disease. One in particular is Dr. Mary Newport. She had great success in treating her husband's illness. She even stopped working and wrote a book documenting her husband's positive experience with his treatment hoping to help others. The book she wrote is called, "Alzheimer's Disease: What If There Was A Cure?"
Coconut oil is gaining its popularity mainly due to its rich source of medium chain fatty acids. These fatty acids are easily digested by the body and can be used as an energy source for the brain. Alzheimer's Disease is also know as "diabetes of the brain". This is because the brain needs insulin in order to use glucose, but when the brain cells lack glucose, they die. This leads to brain damage and dementia. However, these medium chain fatty acids are an abundant source of coconut oil and can be used by the brain in place of glucose.
When our bodies consume this oil, our liver transforms these fatty acids into ketones. These ketones act as energy to support brain function and keeps further brain cells from dying. So, daily consumption will help protect the brain cells and help improve cognitive function and memory in patients suffering with the disease. This is exactly what happened to Dr. Mary Newport's husband. He regained his short term memory and was able to do normal every day activities again.
Although this may not be a cure, research has shown that medium chain fatty acids protect the cells of the brain and improve cognitive function. In my opinion, if the evidence shows that it can help and not hurt, then why not give it a try? If I knew of this when my grandmother was suffering, I would have definitely included coconut oil for Alzheimer's Disease in her daily diet. Now, with this information, I can only protect myself and my loved ones.
I think we should just all start using coconut oil for everything. I will definitely be buying some soon. Thanks for this article
