Understanding the Basics Of Home Automation

Imagine that your home is a place of serenity and rest. It takes care of your everyday tasks like it's nothing and you have time to do what you want instead of what you need. That's what can be accomplished with home automation. The technology takes care of the daunting tasks of running your home. I have a dream to create an automated home as part of self-sufficient home. This means that my home wouldn't consume anything, but still would be fully automated. This doesn't mean a vision of a robot home though. I just want my home to take care of the everyday tasks and give me the time to unwind and concentrate my time on tasks I like.

Information of automated home is scattered all around since this technology goes forward on a fairly fast pace at the moment. Residential automation hasn't been publicly available for long and it has been very expensive. Now the costs are coming down and new ideas are brought forward, so it's perfect time to start planning. It isn't a simple task, it requires a fair amount of knowledge and understanding so it's a good idea to invest some time before going forward.

When you think, automation is already part of our everyday lives. We use intelligent washing machines, that have logic chips to determine how to clean your clothes. We have intelligent coffee makers even. We have remote-controlled lighting. All this is part of the whole. To me a fully automated home would have a single controlled to handle it all, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, audio, video, security, etc. You get the idea.

When you are thinking of automating your own home it all comes down to what your needs are. What tasks you want to give away to the machines. Everyone has their own needs, so every home is different. That's why there can't be a single solution to rule them all. You need to create a list of tasks what you'd want relived and start planning the whole system from there.

The common parts that are given to machines are quite simple: security, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, audio, video and lighting. They adjust your environment by knowing where you are in the house or through a controller. Pretty cool, right? You leave the house and security goes online, you move around your house and lighting adjust to where you are, no more lights that are forgotten. It would also save energy this way.

The final idea would be to have a single system or several systems working as single. You can always start with one and grow it from there, but keep in mind to have as a whole in the end. That's the dream for me.

We are just scratching a mere surface in this matter. Automating your own home can be a fulfilling journey. It's all to improve your life at your home and let your home take care of itself when you are not around. Simple.
