Apple In Ear Headphones Bass - Is There Any?
Join 1000's of Authors at StreetArticles Today!

The Apple In Ear Headphones have got two different audio drivers, a woofer and a tweeter. The woofer is for the low end frequencies (bass) and the tweeter is for the mid range tones and the high end tones. Since there is a dedicated woofer for the low ends, the Apple In Ear Headphones bass should be pumping, yeah?

Not exactly. These are not bass headphones. These are accurate headphones - and there's quite a difference in case you're wondering. The Apples are designed to produce sound as it was originally recorded, and so if the audio engineer decided the bass wasn't meant to be pounding, then so be it. That said, the bass on the Apple In Ears is extremely full. It is a very lush sound - it's also very controlled. Since as I said it has a dedicated driver for the low ends, it can render very low sounds with utter ease. The bass also doesn't 'take over' the mix like some lower quality headphones do (you know the muddiness of inferior earphones?).

People complain about the Apple In Ear Headphones bass all over the internet. If you go and have a look in the Apple store in the reviews section, you will find quite polarizing views and opinions. Some people hate the bass, others love it. I highly suspect that this is because some people are new to the world of canalphones and don't know how to wear them properly. The in ears do just that - they go inside your ear canal and use the space to create their rich and full sound. If you don't get the seal *just* right then you will suffer a loss of bass and a loss of volume. If you find that you are losing your bass, then you will need to learn to insert your Apple In Ears properly as well as make sure that you have got the right ear tips on your earphones. Apple include three different sizes - small, medium and large - so you should find a size that works. If you don't, it's worth looking around for some third party tips, as it's worth the effort to get the Apple In Ears working.

To insert your earphones properly, don't just jam them in. This doesn't give the earphone anything to hold onto properly, and they will just slide out again.

1) Using one hand, reach over and grab the top of the opposite ear. Pull it up gently so the ear opens up.

2) You can now gently slide the earphone inside.

It's also worth putting the cord of the Apple In Ear Headphones down your top, to both stop the sounds of the cord banging around but also to stop the pulling on the earphones, which could cause them to slip out.

I agree, listening to music with the 'correct' amount of bass is a bit of a challenge at first. My brother has just bought a subwoofer for his stereo, and it really does sound great. Although someone used the analogy of sugar in your tea and I like that. It's very pleasurable, but ultimately a little tiring after a while. Learning to enjoy your music with the correct amount of bass (and bass that sounds full and lively at that) is the way to go (at least in my opinion).

I really like the Apple In Ear Headphones bass. It helps that the rest of the music that these headphones produce such as the mid and high tones is also excellent so that the music is very balanced. In the occasional song where I really do want overpowering bass (and it is very occasional) I can set the EQ in iTunes for that particular song, and it will boost the bass on my iPod.

If you like un-natural bass, then don't look here. If you like a full and rich sound, then look here, please. The Apple In Ear headphones offer a great sound, bass, mid and high for a truly excellent price. Just promise me you'll take the time to both get the best fit, and put the earphones in correctly, please? I hope you will consider the Apple In Ear headphones in your earphone upgrade options. They are worth it.
