So you got your new Nook ereader. Let me be the first to say congratulations on your new purchase. I have a Gen 2 ereader and have had great experiences with the ease of use, convenience of always having a new book on hand, and envy of all that see it. I got the ereader I wanted, so what did the cover matter. That is what I thought when I got this cover with my Gen 2. Let me tell you what I found after a few weeks of using this cover.
Colors and material
I love love love bright colors, therefore, I find this a positive. The over personalizes your Nook. My cover? Bright pink. Everybody knows tis is my Nook. The cover comes in Kiwi (lime green), turquoise, and black (for the not so brave soul) as well. I feel the color choices are great. The material is a synthetic leather on the outside and a sueded material on the inside. I wasn't too impressed with the material when I bought this cover, however, it wears very well and is very pliable. (I will explain why this is important in a bit.) Overall, color and material I would consider well done.
Securing the Nook Reader
B&N describes this method as a "bar clip closure". I liked the concept of this clip, however, the Nook slips out constantly while I am reading. I just got back from a trip to Las Vegas and at one point, by Nook completely fell out of the clip system and into my purse. Considering the cover is supposed to secure and protect the Nook, I consider this a bad design and poorly done.
Usability off the Nook with the cover
The magnatic closure makes closing the Nook quite easy, however, there are a lot of "dangly" parts while I am reading. I have to flip the closure to the back so the magnet will connect on the backside of the cover, and then turn the front cover back on itself around to the back. This is where the material being flexible helps. It bends very easily and doesn't ruin the material. The other thing to keep in mind is do you like to use your Nook with the cover on. When I had my Gen 1 Nook, I took it completely out of the cover when I read. This cover doesn't give me that flexibility.
Overall, this cover is very attractive in color and appearance; however, it doesn't protect my Nook Gen as much as I would prefer. In addition, I have learned to manipulate the cover while reading. I feel that there are better covers out there. I am reviewing them one by one at cases and covers for nook. I have also found some great custom covers you can make for yourself for that perfect cover.
Happy Reading.
