You may have noticed that there has been a lot of talk about the Samsung ES8000 and these new LED TVs recently. People from gamers to movie enthusiasts are all talking about these new TVs and in particular the ES8000.
Why don't we have a look at what an actual LED TV is first and then later we will take a quick look at the Samsung ES8000.
LED stands for light emitting diode - you might have heard of light emitting diode lights. These lights are very bright and cost effective. An LED TV is basically a LCD television that uses light emitting diodes as opposed to cold cathode fluorescent lights. An LCD TV is a bit different to plasma TV in that in an actual plasma TV the screen itself lights up whereas in and LCD TV it is the lights behind the screen that light up and produce the picture. LED TVS are now much brighter and have a much better picture quality than plasma but also cost a lot more to purchase. But in the long run LED TVS also are more cost effective as they are much more energy efficient than a plasma TV.
The Samsung ES8000 is an LED TV but it also has a few more features than that. It is one of the first Smart TVs in the world that can be upgraded by a chip that is inserted into the back of the television. Samsung say that they will be releasing a new chip every year from 2013 onwards. The ES800 also is one of the first televisions to have voice, gesture and profile recognition. This means you can now tell your television what to do just by talking to it. The gesture recognition lets you control your television very similar to a Nintendo Wii or Microsoft Kinect.
With the wave of a hand you can change the channel or adjust the volume. The Samsung ES8000 also comes with profile recognition, which means that it will automatically recognize you and sign into the Smart Hub and all of your applications for you. The TV already comes in a variety of sizes but nothing smaller than 50 or so inches.
The bad thing about having a Samsung ES8000 is that you are always connected and always online. Some people might think this is a good thing though. But one thing is definitely for sure and that is LED screens look set to be the next big thing, it might take 5 or so years but there will be a huge move away from other TVs and into this market.
It is consumerism at its best I suppose, just like when color TV first came out - you always have to upgrade. A good thing about the Samsung ES8000 is the upgradable chip - but even with this I am sure they will find a way for us to spend money on something else as well, oh that’s right - the Apps.
