The Kindle Fire was released in November 2011. Priced just under $200, the Fire is notable for its many “firsts.” It was the first Amazon Kindle to not have a 3G option or E Ink display. The Fire comes with 7 –inch In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, light and light sensor. Unlike previous models of the Amazon Kindle, the Kindle Fire doesn’t have a SD card reader, camera or microphone.
Many people believe that the Kindle Fire was developed to compete with the Apple iPad. Interestingly, the Fire was not manufactured to turn a profit on the actual device. It is being sold for less than its production price. Amazon, instead, hopes to profit from the sale of Amazon Kindle books and other digital content. The idea of the company doing so may seem foreign to some. However, considering how popular e-books have become, it seems to be a pretty safe bet.
The Kindle Fire comes with 8 GB of storage and 512 MB RAM of memory. Its battery, when fully charged, will support 8 hours of use. The Fire can be use for more than simply reading e-books. It is also possible to watch movies and videos on it, making it much more of a multi-media device rather than simply an e-reader.
The Kindle Fire has experienced brisk sales since its release in the fourth quarter of 2011. Starting in December (2011), just two weeks after its initial release, more then one million Kindles have been sold each week.
Kindle Fire owners will find that they have access to a number of online services. Using their Fire, they will be able to access, use and make purchases from the following, the Amazon App Store, Amazon Prime, Amazon Instant Video, Amazon Silk, Amazon Kindle Store, Amazon Cloud Player and the Amazon Cloud Storage.
The production cost of the Kindle Fire is believed to be about $201. The device is being sold for about $199. It’s a pretty safe assumption that Kindle Fire owners will spend at least $2 on books, which would make up the difference. In all actuality, Fire owners will spend much more than that over the course of owning the device, quickly putting the Fire in the black.
Overall, the Kindle Fire is an excellent device for someone in the market for an e-reader in the mid-price range. It’s similar to the Apple iPad, making it a perfect option for someone seeking a device with some of the iPad’s features, but not its high price tag.
I see it was a good thing to wait for the lasted Kindle device to come out.
