A positive mental attitude leads to success.
Affiliate marketing is a process and a good bit of that process is ones mental attitude. One of the greatest challenges of an affiliate marketer is getting the things we need to do, done. Some may have the felling of rejection or failure but a lot of that can be overcome with a good positive attitude.
Have you ever needed to see your boss to ask for a raise or day off. You may get all nervous or sweaty before hand, and some may even get physically sick. When we really have to do something we would rather not do, there are times when in our mind we've already decided the answer or outcome before the actual event.
Other actions or inactions also affect how we may do things and create a negative attitude in the back of our mind we may not even be aware of. For instance there are a few things I really need to do on my little piece of property. I can convince myself I can't do this or that but in reality I know I can, and if needed help is readily available. Keep your mind free and do those little things that need doing.
This can also be related to how we work our affiliate marketing business. I say "we" as I am just as guilty of doing, or not doing, the things that can make this business successful. An objective of an affiliate marketer is to present information to a consumer to help them justify making a purchase. Problem is to get that information in front of that consumer.
In affiliate marketing there are things we need to do to promote our products. We need to do research, build webpages, write articles, post to blogs, visit forums...the list goes on and on. Time consuming yes, and at times boring, but those are the little things that separate those that are successful in this business and those that are not doing as well.
Do you experience self-doubt? It's common when first starting a business on the internet. How we think and how we see ourselves can and does cause problems in our business and lives. Much of that is all in our own minds and much of our action is determined in what we think.
This can be a negative or this can be a positive attitude. Not thinking positively is a challenge but one that can be overcome. Here are a few thoughts
- Previous Successes. Doesn't even have to be anything to do with your internet business. You've accomplished something so applaud yourself for it.
- Set Goals. Be realistic but something you must work to obtain and then do what you need to do to meet those goals.
- Think of your strengths. Focus on what you are good at and expand on those things. Work on your weaknesses.
- Visualize. Think in your mind that you are already a successful marketer. After all you HAVE taken the steps to start a business others are afraid to even try.
- Say it out loud. Well maybe not in the middle of the office but vocally tell yourself your goals and beliefs on a daily basis.
- Prey. Asking God for help and guidance can do no harm.
Stick with your guns, set your goals, and stick with your plan of action. Make adjustments when needed. Even if you don't convert a sale today, tomorrow, or even next week only positive things can happen as you learn from your mistakes and celebrate your successes. Now I believe I have some yard work that needs doing!
I agree I think that we are far to tough on ourselves sometimes. I like Jay's principle of letting things marinate. Gayle
Hi Kevin, I think we are too tough on ourselves. Sometimes it's smart to let something just sit there for a while so you can think about it. Sometimes doing nothing is doing more. Leave your project alone until you get some perspective. That's what I've learned the hard way. Yes, and stay positive.
Self doubt has always been a problem especially when you don't make any sales, because you start to question your own abilities. I know this first hand what this feels like and the more you try the worse it gets, sometimes you have to walk away and take stock of what you really want to achieve, then come back refreshed.
I too need that nudge. Thanks for the motivation. Yes, there is a lot that needs to be done. I find the key is to just keep going... even slow is better than nothing!
Hi Heather and thanks for the visit...Slow and deliberate action is the key....
Thanks Kevin I always find your articles motivating. I think sometimes you just need to step back from yourself too and get out of your own way. If you leave things alone for a couple of days then go back to it you often find the very thing you were struggling with seems magically easy.
Thanks you Penny and appreciate the visit;
Thank you Kevin :) I needed to read this article today!
